Call for Nicknames for Symbol Design of Coexistence Society
Tokyo is taking significant steps towards establishing a society where everyone, regardless of ability, can live together in mutual respect and support. This effort aims at creating an inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities and fostering understanding within the community.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has registered various organizations and businesses that actively work towards this ideal of coexistence, identifying them as supporters of the coexistence concept. To promote this initiative further and make it more recognizable, the city is now soliciting creative nicknames for its new symbol design, which embodies the spirit of coexistence.
Purpose of the Symbol Design
The symbol design was officially decided through a public vote held in the 2022 fiscal year, and it represents the commitment to a society where diverse individuals come together. The design includes five colorful characters, each symbolizing the rich diversity among people with different backgrounds and abilities. The characters are linked in a circle, coming together to form a heart at the center and a budding leaf at the top, signifying growth and unity.
The intention behind this design is to visually express the hope of nurturing a new society where everyone can thrive together with compassion and solidarity, regardless of disabilities or medical needs.
