On January 14, 2025, during the World Future Energy Summit (WFES 2025) in Abu Dhabi, JA Solar officially entered into a significant partnership with the China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) to supply an impressive 1.25 GW of high-efficiency solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. This collaboration is directed towards the Abydos Solar Storage Project Phase II, which is heralded as Africa's largest PV-storage project to date.

The agreement stipulates that JA Solar will be the exclusive provider of advanced n-type solar modules for this monumental project, co-developed by AMEA Power and constructed by CEEC. This initiative will feature a site extending approximately 20 square kilometers and is set to include both the largest solar installation and the most extensive battery storage system on the African continent.

Once operational, the Abydos project is projected to generate a staggering 3,000 GWh of electricity annually. This production capacity is poised to supply power to over 500,000 homes, significantly decreasing carbon dioxide emissions by over 1 million tons each year. This project is more than just a megaproject; it represents a significant advancement in renewable energy capabilities and grid stability in Egypt, marking an important milestone in the region's energy transition.

The Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, voiced his excited expectations for the upcoming project, highlighting its crucial role in propelling Egypt's Clean Energy Action Plan.
