Select Medical and Corewell Health Team Up for New Rehabilitation Facility in Michigan
Select Medical and Corewell Health Collaborate for New Rehabilitation Hospital in Southeast Michigan
In a significant development for healthcare in Southeast Michigan, Select Medical Corporation has partnered with Corewell Health to construct and operate a state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Sterling Heights. This joint venture aims to meet the rising demand for specialized rehabilitation services in the region, introducing a facility that promises advanced care and innovative rehabilitation techniques.
The upcoming 84-bed hospital, strategically located adjacent to Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, will cater to patients recovering from various conditions, including strokes, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, amputations, and complex orthopedic issues. Set to be a four-story facility characterized by modern design and cutting-edge rehabilitative technology, this new hospital will tailor care to each patient's unique recovery goals.
Tom Mullin, CEO of Select Medical, expressed enthusiasm about enhancing their long-standing partnership with Corewell Health, emphasizing the facility's role in providing a comprehensive recovery journey for patients moving from acute care to specialized rehabilitation services. “It is a privilege to build on our existing partnership with Corewell Health to bring world-class rehabilitation care to serve the growing needs across the Southeast Michigan region,” he stated.
This project is not only a response to the increasing need for rehabilitation services but also a strategic move to greatly expand the capacity and capabilities of the rehabilitation sector in the area. Lamont Yoder, president of Corewell Health in Southeast Michigan, pointed out that the new facility will nearly quadruple the current rehabilitation footprint in Troy, allowing for a dedicated environment that enhances the recovery experience for patients. He highlighted, “As Michigan's health care leader, expanding access to the care our communities need underscores our commitment to make the health care experience more personal, extraordinary, and easier.”
The development of this joint venture hospital is currently navigating through necessary regulatory and municipal approvals and is projected to open its doors in 2029. This timeline underscores the careful planning and consideration involved in establishing a facility that promises to redefine rehabilitation care in the region.
