Experience the Return of 'BLUE OCEAN DOME' at the Osaka Expo 2026

Revisit the 'BLUE OCEAN DOME'

The Japan Science Future Museum, under the guidance of Director Tomoko Asakawa, has announced an exciting event for the Osaka-Kansai Expo. From July 18 to September 30, 2026, the awe-inspiring large-scale visual performance titled 'BLUE OCEAN DOME' will be re-screened at the Dome Theater. This presentation serves as a significant conclusion to a series designed to connect the achievements of the Expo to the future, allowing audiences a unique opportunity to reflect on our relationship with the ocean, particularly concerning plastic pollution.

This innovative work is a full CG creation that illustrates the escalating crisis of marine plastic contamination and the rich interdependence of life on Earth. By dynamically shifting perspectives from cellular levels to the vastness of outer space, it intertwines realistic underwater depictions with imaginative imagery, powerfully engaging viewers’ senses. Originally exhibited on a high-definition, approximately 10-meter diameter LED hemispherical screen at the Expo, the film has been specially adapted for the museum’s theater, featuring a dome measuring about 15 meters in diameter, thanks to collaboration with the Japan Design Center and visual design studio WOW. Visitors can now experience the exhilarating ambiance of the Expo itself.

The BLUE OCEAN DOME pavilion, which focused on the sustainable use of marine resources and the protection of marine ecosystems, was presented by the NPO ZERI JAPAN and attracted over 1.12 million visitors during the Expo. The pavilion included three domes, and this re-screening specifically showcases the large-scale visuals displayed in Dome B. This is an exceptional opportunity to witness a critical piece of documentary filmmaking that captures the essence of innovation and urgency regarding oceanic concerns—don’t miss the chance to enjoy this stunning visual work.
