Haleon Japan Engages in the 3R Campaign 2025
Haleon Japan, led by President Mari Nogami and based in Minato City, Tokyo, has announced its participation in the Ministry of the Environment’s "Choose! 3R Campaign 2025". This initiative, which continues from 2024, aims to unite manufacturers and retailers in a collaborative consumer campaign. The goal is to help each individual understand and appreciate the importance of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—through their everyday shopping habits and product choices.
As part of this commitment, Haleon Japan received recognition as a "Re-Style Partner Company" in December 2023. This designation was granted by the Ministry of the Environment in recognition of Haleon's alignment with the circular lifestyle principles presented in the "Re-Style" campaign. This partnership reflects Haleon's dedication to promoting the 3R activities effectively.
According to the Ministry of the Environment, the "Choose! 3R Campaign" is designed to enhance the understanding of the 3Rs and resource conservation among consumers. The initiative aligns with Japan’s Fifth Basic Plan for the Promotion of the Formation of a Circular Society, which was approved by the cabinet in August of this year. It emphasizes collaboration between retailers and manufacturers, aiming to drive significant changes in consumer behavior.
In its ninth year, the campaign focuses primarily on promoting resource-saving products that contribute to Reduction and Recycling, among other related goods. Starting from October 1, 2024, this campaign will take place in around 18,000 stores nationwide, including major supermarkets and drugstores.
Products with Sustainable Features
Haleon Japan is introducing innovative changes to its product packaging to align with the campaign's objectives. For example, the caps of its toothpaste tubes have been switched to bio-based materials, effectively reducing the use of fossil-derived plastics. Several products, including the "Sensodyne" and "Parodontax" toothbrush series, have seen substantial reductions—approximately 64% in fossil-derived plastic use per toothbrush, thanks to the introduction of biomass materials. Furthermore, these toothbrushes utilize over 95% recycled PET in their packaging.
In line with its sustainability goals, Haleon has also launched 100% plastic-free packaging for select toothbrushes, showcasing a commitment to environmental consciousness within its manufacturing processes. Packages featuring the newly designed Eco Mark will indicate that the product meets the company's eco-standards, promoting a message of responsible consumerism and environmental stewardship.
The campaign runs from October 1, 2024, through December 31 of the same year, and aims to not only inspire consumers to make environmentally conscious choices but also to solidify the commitment of participating companies to sustainable practices.
