Memorial Healthcare System Unveils New ER Facility in Pembroke Pines

Memorial Healthcare System has just inaugurated its latest facility, the Douglas Road Emergency Room, in Pembroke Pines, marking a significant enhancement in emergency healthcare for residents of Broward and Miami-Dade counties. During the celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials, community leaders, and stakeholders, this 30,000-square-foot freestanding ER was revealed to be an upgraded version of Memorial's long-standing 24/7 Care Center.

A Long Legacy of Care

For over four decades, the existing 24/7 Care Center has been a crucial part of the Pembroke Pines community, with more than 800,000 patients receiving treatment in the last 15 years alone. The Douglas Road ER aims to expand upon this legacy by fulfilling the growing demands of emergency services with increased capabilities and advanced healthcare technologies.

Officially opening to the public in August 2026, the new facility is designed to deliver high-quality emergency services for both adults and children. It features a complete integration with Memorial Healthcare System's extensive network, ensuring seamless access to specialist care and various follow-up services.

Unlike typical urgent care centers, the Douglas Road ER operates as a licensed emergency department affiliated with Memorial Hospital Pembroke, offering around-the-clock emergency care and advanced diagnostic technologies.

Comprehensive Facilities

The newly designed ER includes 41 treatment spaces, which consist of:
  • - 18 private adult treatment rooms
  • - 4 pediatric treatment rooms
  • - 16 fast-track rooms
  • - 5 triage bays
  • - Trauma and resuscitation rooms
  • - A dedicated procedure room and a bariatric room
  • - A quiet room for better patient comfort

Moreover, the ER is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology that includes 24-hour CT scans, X-rays, and ultrasound facilities, alongside a full-service laboratory to expedite accurate emergency evaluations.

Commitment to Community Healthcare

Shane Strum, the interim CEO of Memorial Healthcare System, emphasized the organization’s commitment to enhancing emergency services in the community. He stated, "This $52 million investment signifies our dedication to construct a healthcare framework capable of catering to South Florida's medical needs for generations." Together with the existing Red Road ER, the Douglas Road facility is expected to accommodate over 32,850 patients annually, alleviating the burden on adjacent emergency departments as local populations continue to rise.

Felicia Turnley, CEO of Memorial Hospital Pembroke, expressed pride in the facility’s transformation while reassuring the community about their unwavering dedication to outstanding emergency care: "For over 40 years, this place has been fundamental to our community. The facility may evolve, but our promise to deliver compassionate, high-quality care remains intact."

Coordinated Care Services

Patients at Douglas Road ER will receive expedited care from emergency medical teams that are well-equipped to handle a wide spectrum of urgent medical matters. In cases where patients require specialized procedures or hospital admission, transfers within Memorial’s network are smooth and efficient.

Dr. Louis Jane, the emergency medical director, highlighted that the new facility is tailored to handle various urgent and severe health conditions, thus providing families with much-needed emergency capabilities and resources.

This initiative by Memorial Healthcare System marks an essential step in strengthening the emergency care network in South Florida, ensuring that local residents gain prompt access to state-of-the-art medical care whenever they require it.
