Lauderhill Kicks Off Peace Month 2025 with Community Rally to Combat Gun Violence

Lauderhill Launches Peace Month 2025

The City of Lauderhill is set to commence Peace Month 2025 with a community-laden atmosphere during its highly anticipated Peace Rally and Resource Fair. Scheduled for June 1 from 3 PM to 6 PM at Lauderhill City Hall, this event highlights the city's commitment to addressing gun violence, coinciding with National Gun Violence Awareness Month.

As this initiative enters its third year, it marks an urgent call for the community to unite in the pursuit of healing and proactive action against gun violence. Spearheaded by Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn and the Lauderhill Peace365 initiative, the rally promises to be both educational and celebratory. Attendees can look forward to the unveiling of a unique youth-created Peace Quilt, Peace Maker Awards recognizing local heroes, live performances, and an array of resources from 15 vendor booths.

In a special touch for early attendees, the first 200 participants to register will receive a complimentary Peace365 shirt, fostering a sense of belonging and active participation in promoting peace.

Peace Month will not be limited to just one day of celebration. Throughout June, the city will organize a series of events aiming to empower residents of all ages. Among these, Youth and Adult Peace Empowerment Workshops and a Community Peace Garden project will be held. These activities are designed to provide people with essential skills in emotional wellness, conflict resolution, and civic participation.

Commissioner Dunn stressed the essence of this event, stating, “Peace Month is our city’s invitation to every resident to be part of the solution. When we come together—government, nonprofits, families, and faith-based organizations—we create a Lauderhill where everyone feels safe, healthy, and has a chance to thrive.”

The efforts behind Peace Month are bolstered by collaboration from various community partners, including the Children's Services Council of Broward County, United Way of Broward County, and the Lauderhill Health and Prosperity Partnership (LHPP). The backdrop for this year's call for peace is alarming; with over 140 confirmed shootings and more than 2,000 domestic disturbance calls noted in Lauderhill in 2024, it is evident that the message of peace must extend beyond mere words and become a rallying cry for real and lasting change.

Media representatives are not only welcomed but encouraged to attend the Peace Rally to witness firsthand accounts from residents, youth, and leaders devoted to eradicating violence and fostering a vibrant Lauderhill.
