Sharjah Government Opens Submissions for Communication Awards with AI Emphasis
The Sharjah Government has announced the commencement of submissions for the 13th edition of the Sharjah Government Communication Award, aiming to expand its scope to include a stronger focus on the impact of artificial intelligence in the field of communications. This prestigious competition invites organizations and individuals from around the globe to participate, with submissions open until September 22, 2026.
With over 35 award categories, the competition covers a diverse range of areas such as government and international organizational communication, private sector initiatives, and individual achievements. This year’s expansion acknowledges the significant rise in international participation, as evidenced by the remarkable 2,600 submissions received from 37 countries in 2025. The 2025 awards saw more than 600 entries advance past the initial screening, culminating in 170 reaching the final evaluation stage.
Past submissions have included innovative projects addressing global challenges, such as Tuvalu's endeavor to become the first digital nation to combat climate change, youth entrepreneurship initiatives in Nigeria, and an AI-driven platform facilitating expert connections between Africa and the United States.
The 13th edition of this award, launched by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, emphasizes the measurable outcomes of communication practices, with a notable introduction of the 'Best Use of Artificial Intelligence in Government and Institutional Communication' category. This year, entries in other categories can also gain up to 10% in additional points if they demonstrate effective and innovative uses of AI.
The evaluation criteria for the jury will focus on how artificial intelligence has been integrated into the planning, execution, and assessment of communication outcomes. Key considerations will include enhancements in content quality, audience comprehension, and overall communication efficiency. In addition, the competition will debut a new subcategory dedicated to 'Best Campaigns Promoting Emirati Identity', reflecting the intent to promote local culture and heritage.
As the submission period opens, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau encourages applicants to showcase initiatives that not only illustrate effective communication strategies but also demonstrate tangible changes as a result of these efforts. Initiatives should detail who benefited from their communications, how they benefited, and the sustainability of the impact achieved.
