Divine Mercy University Launches School of Spiritual Direction
Divine Mercy University (DMU) is excited to announce the establishment of the School of Spiritual Direction, a new initiative designed for individuals who wish to deepen their spiritual journey and connection with God. This innovative school will provide comprehensive spiritual formation rooted in the rich tradition of Catholic teachings.
The Vision Behind the School
Guided by prayerful reflection and discernment, the School of Spiritual Direction aims to nurture personal renewal and spiritual growth. It acknowledges the Church's ongoing need for individuals who are not only well-versed in prayer but also adept at listening to the Holy Spirit's guidance. Fr. Charles Sikorsky, the university's president, emphasized, "The Church has a continual need for men and women who are deeply formed in prayer and capable of attentive listening to the movements of the Holy Spirit."
Foundational Courses Offered
The School will offer a series of foundational courses titled "Preparing Our Hearts," which welcomes participants looking for rigorous academic formation. No formal prerequisites are required, making it accessible to anyone committed to fostering their spiritual life. The initial courses include:
- - SOSD101: Exploring spiritual growth within the context of the Church's wealth of traditions.
- - SDC100: An introduction to Christian discipleship and spiritual accompaniment in the Church.
- - SDC200: A comprehensive study of the human person from biological, psychological, social, and spiritual perspectives to enhance effective spiritual accompaniment.
Courses
SDC100 and
SDC200 are essential prerequisites for those interested in pursuing the School's Spiritual Direction Certificate (SDC).
Future Offerings and Community Engagement
By the fall of 2026, the School plans to expand its offerings to better serve those already engaged in spiritual direction. Maria Brackett, Director of the School, expressed, "Whether participants ultimately pursue a certificate or seek deeper personal formation, our courses will strengthen their relationship with the Lord."
The School of Spiritual Direction warmly welcomes all individuals—whether they are discerning a call to become spiritual directors or are currently serving in this capacity—to embark on a path filled with prayer, faithful discernment, and service to the Church.
