DAR Marian Anderson Legacy Scholarship Applications Open
The DAR Marian Anderson Legacy Scholarship is currently open for applications, welcoming undergraduate and graduate music students until January 31, 2026. This prestigious scholarship, offered by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), grants a one-time award of $5,000 to a student pursuing a degree in music.
Honoring a Legacy
Marian Anderson was a pioneering African American contralto whose contributions to music and civil rights continue to inspire generations. The DAR aims to honor her legacy by supporting aspiring musicians who demonstrate excellence in their studies and commitment to community service. Ginnie Sebastian Storage, the President General of DAR, states, “This scholarship pays tribute to Marian Anderson's life, and we seek to honor her legacy through aspiring musicians.”
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be either accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States, with a concentration in music. Areas of focus may include performance, composition, theory, or music education. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.

To further emphasize her dedication to community service, applicants are also required to submit a personal statement detailing their volunteer or humanitarian contributions.
While the scholarship is open to students nationwide, preference is given to applicants from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania metropolitan area, as a nod to the city that Marian Anderson called home.
Reapplication Opportunity
Though this scholarship is a one-time award, winners have the option to reapply for consideration for up to four consecutive years, allowing students continued financial support as they progress through their studies.
