Brock Heger Claims Victory at King of the Hammers
In an impressive display of skill and determination, Brock Heger, the renowned driver for RZR Factory Racing, triumphed at the 2026 King of the Hammers (KOH)® Desert Challenge. This marks his third consecutive overall victory at the event, a major achievement in the competitive world of UTV racing. With this win, Heger continues to build on his formidable reputation, having recently come off a successful run at the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.
The seventh annual Desert Challenge took place in Johnson Valley, where the stakes were high, and competitors were eager to prove themselves. The race consists of a grueling 250-mile course, known for its demanding terrain that tests the capabilities of both driver and machine. Heger drove a flawless race, showcasing the speed and reliability of the Polaris RZR Pro R Factory, ultimately securing the top spot in the UTV Open class during the limited race.
Heger's journey through the race began with an intense qualifying session, where he lined up in the second position. As the race commenced, he quickly surged into the lead, displaying a combination of strategic driving and raw power. His RZR Pro R Factory performed exceptionally well, tackling the challenging sections of the course with remarkable ease. Completing the race, Heger finished a remarkable nine minutes ahead of the second-place UTV, highlighting not only his driving prowess but also the impressive engineering behind the Polaris brand.
In addition to Heger’s success, Polaris athletes showcased their depth in talent. Chaden Minder delivered an outstanding performance, clinching third place after starting from the 22nd position. His drive was a testament to the capabilities of the RZR Pro R, as he battled through the ranks against factory-backed competitors. Following closely were Sebastian Marques and Ethan Groom, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, adding to the tally of Polaris drivers in the top ten. Branden Sims and Sierra Romo also made the cut, rounding out the top ten placements with solid performances.
Heger expressed his gratitude and excitement over his continued success, stating, "It feels great to start the season with this kind of momentum. Coming straight from Dakar and barely getting adjusted back, then jumping into a race as demanding as King of the Hammers makes this win so rewarding. We were able to qualify well, get to the front early, and then control the race, which is all you can ask for."
The race is often described as an all-out sprint through the desert, and it’s crucial for drivers to adapt quickly to the ever-changing conditions. Competing against harsh weather, technical obstacles, and the pressure of the competition, Heger and his team displayed remarkable resilience.
Polaris' Director of Off-Road Motorsports, Alex Scheuerell, praised Heger’s efforts and the overall performance of the Polaris RZR Pro R, saying, "Brock drove an incredible race to bring home the trophy once again for Polaris. His ability to shift between disciplines and dominate at the highest level is truly remarkable."
As the UTV racing season kicks off, Heger and his team are looking forward to the next challenge, the UTV Hammers Championship Race Rock. Scheduled for February 5, the team will pilot modified versions of the Gen 1 RZR Pro R, specially designed to tackle the rocky terrains, including the infamous Chocolate Thunder.
