Celebrating 20 Years of Inclusive Baseball: Miracle League of the Triangle Gala Raises $400,000

On October 13, 2026, the Miracle League of the Triangle held its 20th Anniversary Gala at the Angus Barn Pavilion, successfully raising an impressive $400,000. The event brought together more than 300 attendees, celebrating two decades of fostering inclusive baseball experiences for individuals with disabilities. This notable occasion was themed "This Is What a Dream Looks Like!" and highlighted the remarkable growth of the organization since its inception in 2006, where it began with just 106 players at a single field in Cary.

The Miracle League now serves nearly 700 players each season across multiple locations in the Triangle, showcasing a significant impact on the community. Benjy Capps, the Executive Director of the Miracle League of the Triangle, reflected on the organization's mission, stating, "Twenty years ago, the Miracle League of the Triangle began with a simple dream to create a place where children and adults with disabilities could play baseball, build friendships and be celebrated for everything they can do." His remarks emphasized the strong community support sustaining the dream, which was evident in the gala's turnout and fundraising success.

One of the evening's most memorable moments featured a celebrity video tribute with heartfelt messages from sports legends like Cal Ripken Jr., Jaccob Slavin, and musician Lainey Wilson. This video, along with various others from the Miracle League, can be found on the organization's YouTube channel, extending the celebration of inclusivity beyond the gala.

The league’s continued growth is made possible by the dedication of more than 3,000 volunteers each season who serve as buddies, coaches, and group partners, forming a robust support network for players. Despite the expansion over the last two decades, the player registration fees have not increased. Each player still receives a new jersey, hat, trophy, and team photo every season, maintaining the organization’s commitment to providing quality experiences.

Since the introduction of its "Get A Glove" program in 2022, nearly 300 new baseball gloves have been provided to players at no cost, ensuring that everyone has the necessary equipment to participate fully. The Miracle League's players, ranging in age from 5 to 72, benefit significantly from the dedication of the local community, including partnerships with four area high schools that have established Miracle League Clubs aimed at supporting the league’s initiatives.

As the organization steps into its next 20 years, it continues to welcome both volunteers and donors. The Miracle League of the Triangle actively encourages individuals interested in making a difference to learn about volunteer opportunities and how to support their programs by visiting their website, mltriangle.com.

Since its founding, the Miracle League of the Triangle has provided children and adults facing disabilities with the invaluable opportunity to engage in baseball in a supportive and inclusive setting. The league emphasizes the philosophy that everyone deserves to play, complementing every game with volunteer buddies, personalized walk-up music, and a community spirit that champions inclusivity.

The ongoing commitment of the Miracle League not only transforms the lives of its players but also reinforces the power of community support in making dreams a reality. As they look to the future, the Miracle League of the Triangle hopes to continue this tradition of inclusion and joy for the next generation of players and families.
