Celebration of Creativity: Creative Hack Award 2025

WIRED Japan, a leading innovation media outlet, is excited to announce the launch of the Creative Hack Award 2025 in collaboration with Sony Group. This annual event, now in its 13th year, invites creators from around the world to submit innovative works that challenge conventional norms and bias. The submission period opens on August 25, 2025, and will close on October 6, 2025.

The Creative Hack Award, also known as the Hack Award, was established in 2013 with the mission to inspire creators to innovate and explore new realms of creativity. This year, applicants are encouraged to present their unique interpretations of the theme “hack” in any form or medium they choose - showcasing the diversity and depth of creative expression. An essential aspect of the submission is the requirement to clearly articulate the what, why, and how of the hack, ensuring that each entry conveys its concept thoroughly.

Submissions will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges, tapping into a wealth of experience across various industries:

• - Claudia Christovao (Head of Brand Studio APAC at Google)
• - Yasuharu Sasaki (Chief Creative Officer at Dentsu)
• - Hisashi Kasajima (Director at Ealin Japan)

• - Shuzo Shioda (President at Polygon Pictures)
• - Asako Fujikura (Artist)
• - Yasuaki Kakehashi (Interactive Media Researcher)
• - Nobuharu Fukuhara (Creative Director at Sony Group)
• - Tatsuya Takabe (Winner of the Creative Hack Award 2024)

With this year's focus on harnessing the potential of creative minds, the Hack Award opens its doors to applicants from varying backgrounds, encouraging artists, students, and professionals alike to let their ideas flourish. Both a Japanese and English website is available for submissions, allowing a global audience to participate.

Award Details

Application Period:

• - August 25, 2025 - October 6, 2025

Final Judging:

• - Scheduled for early to mid-December 2025

Submission Guidelines:

• - Applicants can submit works that embody the concept of a “hack” or its idea.
• - The expression format is flexible, and there are no restrictions on theme.
• - Each entrant (individual or group) can submit up to five works.

However, please note:

• - Entries that are client-sponsored works or previously submitted works to other awards are not eligible.
• - Campaigns or works produced for promotional purposes are also excluded.

Judging Criteria:

• - Originality: A fresh perspective—what makes the hack interesting?
• - Social Impact: The depth and relevance of the inquiry—why does it matter?
• - Expression: The clarity and effectiveness of the idea—how was it communicated?

Awards and prizes will be disclosed at a later date on the dedicated event website.
