Haier's Sustainable Ecosystem Development in Emerging Economies

Haier's Commitment to Sustainable Development in Emerging Economies

In recent years, Haier Group has actively contributed to the sustainable growth of developing nations, showcasing the responsibility and commitment of a global enterprise. The company’s initiatives focus on enhancing public health systems, enabling industrial advancements, and fostering local economic growth.

One of the standout projects is the Solar Public Health Initiative in Ethiopia, where Haier Biomedical pioneers the use of solar-powered refrigeration technology to bolster vaccine storage and transportation. With many Ethiopian facilities suffering from inadequate electricity supply and poor health infrastructure, the health and safety of vaccines are critically at risk. By employing zero-carbon direct-drive solar refrigeration in its vaccine units, Haier ensures that even during electrical outages and in heat conditions up to 43°C, these units maintain a stable temperature of 8°C for an extended period—up to 120 hours, far exceeding the World Health Organization's 72-hour standard. This significantly enhances the secure distribution of vaccines across the nation.

To date, Haier has successfully delivered over 10,000 solar-powered vaccine refrigerators and established 16 cold storage facilities across the country. Additionally, they have introduced eco-friendly public health solutions, such as connected blood refrigerators, which serve more than 100 health posts nationwide. These efforts not only address vaccination hurdles but also empower local public health systems, creating a model for health cooperation aligned with the Belt and Road Initiative.

Strengthening Digital Infrastructure and Shared Economic Benefits

Beyond health initiatives, Haier has strategically expanded its operations in countries like Egypt and Thailand. These ventures aim to create intelligent, eco-friendly, and high-end industrial ecosystems on BRICS markets via local manufacturing. This localized approach addresses specific user needs and promotes smart upgrades throughout the local home appliance manufacturing chain, further extending its reach across neighboring regions, including substantial markets in Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

In Egypt, for example, Haier has invested an impressive $160 million to construct the Haier Egypt Eco-Park, which integrates smart manufacturing, digitization, and flexibility. This facility exemplifies a comprehensive scenario for smart manufacturing utilizing digital twin technology. Meanwhile, in Thailand, the establishment of the Chonburi Air Conditioner Industrial Park marks Southeast Asia's first 5G-connected factory, setting a benchmark for Thailand 4.0's digital transformation.

Haier's plant in Bekasi, Indonesia, is transitioning into a multi-category manufacturing hub, with plans to incorporate photovoltaic power and serve as a model for manufacturing bases across Southeast Asia.

The company's three-pronged strategy—localized research and development, localized manufacturing, and localized marketing—effectively advances intelligent, eco-friendly growth in developing countries. Through a unique human-unit integration framework, Haier empowers its employees with greater autonomy and decision-making power, fostering innovation.

Furthermore, Haier has instituted a flexible supply chain system to dynamically optimize global supply chain arrangements for maximum efficiency. The company has transitioned from merely exporting single products to sharing advanced technologies such as digital twins, 5G, and the Internet of Things, ultimately collaborating to build comprehensive industrial ecosystems, thus establishing a genuine sustainable development framework.

In summary, Haier's concerted efforts and innovative solutions not only create a significant impact in emerging markets but also pave the way for an inclusive, sustainable future on a global scale.
