The upcoming exhibition titled 'After Light' will be held at BONDED GALLERY from October 2 to October 24, 2026. Organized by Warehouse TERRADA, the exhibition will showcase the works of three contemporary artists: Shinya Imanishi, Yuka Shimura, and Teppei Kaneuji. This unique exhibition aims to delve into how light influences our perception and recognition.

The Concept

Light plays a multifaceted role in our visual experiences. It not only illuminates objects but also reflects, transmits, and sometimes creates shadows that add complexity to our perception. The exhibition will invite viewers to explore how familiar objects can shift in meaning and form when placed in different contexts or relationships.

Shinya Imanishi uses thick layers of oil paint, skillfully scraped away to reveal rich textures and shadows, highlighting the dynamic relationship between light and matter. Yuka Shimura presents relief works based on optical principles, allowing viewers to experience how light and color transform space. Teppei Kaneuji employs a collage technique, connecting pre-existing images and objects to challenge the meanings and interrelations they hold.

Through these distinct approaches, visitors will experience the shifts in perception and understanding that emerge from the aftermath of light.

Featured Artists

Shinya Imanishi

Born in Nara in 1990 and currently residing there, Shinya Imanishi's works are an exploration of how we perceive the world through material traces and actions. Drawing upon Eastern philosophical concepts such as 'dependent origination' and 'causality,' he engages with materials, layering oil paint, scraping, and tying to visualize relationships between the visible, the invisible, and the ever-changing dynamics of the world. His major solo exhibitions include 'Breathe In, Breathe Out' at Nara Prefectural Museum of Art (2025) and 'GLIMMERING' at THE BRIDGE, Osaka (2023).

Yuka Shimura

Yuka Shimura, born in 1976 in Yokohama, investigates perceptual transformations occurring amidst various elements. Known for her application of optical materials, she creates works that explore the dynamic interplay of light and shadow. A member of the Tokyo University of the Arts, her accolades include the Excellence Award at the Media Arts Festival and the TERRADA ART AWARD (2015). Major exhibitions include 'SHIMURAbros - Film Without Film' at Pola Museum of Art (2018) and 'Specious Rainbow' at Tokyo Gallery + BTAP (2023).

Teppei Kaneuji

Teppei Kaneuji, born in Kyoto in 1978, applies collaging techniques to everyday objects, exploring the relationship between substance and imagery. A professor at Kyoto City University of Arts, his exhibitions and works encompass sculpture, painting, and stage design. His solo exhibitions include 'Keshigomu Mori' at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (2020) and his staged works have been prominently featured in venues across Japan.
