Celebrating Age and Diversity at LiNK WALK 2026
On February 15, 2026, a remarkable fashion event called
LiNK WALK took place at the Japan Welfare University in Handa, Aichi Prefecture. Organized by
Mirai Project, this event witnessed a beautiful fusion of fashion and inclusivity as 18 pairs of models
including seniors and individuals with disabilities took to the runway, showcasing the theme of 'denim' while promoting a sense of community and joy.
A Diverse Cast on the Runway
Among the participants was an extraordinary 101-year-old model, who stole the show with her radiant smile. The runway featured models ranging from young welfare students in their twenties to the eldest participant, all united under the common theme of denim. Their confidence shone as they walked gracefully, showcasing outfits styled by students from the
Nursing Beauty School in Nagoya.
The atmosphere was electrifying, with spectators applauding and celebrating as the models proudly displayed their individuality and style. Many participants expressed overwhelming joy at being a part of such an inclusive experience, with comments like, “This is the happiest day of my life” and “I can now die without regrets; it was so much fun!” reverberating through the venue.
The Symbolism of Denim
The choice of denim was intentional for its universal appeal across generations and its casual nature, allowing for personal expression. Models sported denim jackets and jeans, embodying styles that resonated with their personalities while connecting with the audience in a heartfelt manner.
The Healing Power of Make-up
Volunteers from the Nursing Beauty School in Nagoya provided makeup services to participants, not just enhancing their outward appearance but facilitating meaningful conversations to ease any tension. This interaction not only transformed models’ looks but also uplifted their spirits. Participants reported feelings of joy and surprise at their own beauty, with many smiling more brightly and exuding newfound confidence.
Community Initiatives and Forward Thinking
The event was co-organized by
KAiGO PRiDE and featured empowering messages from ambassadors like Akemi Yamazaki, who reflected on the shared experiences of joy as models prepared to walk the red carpet. She emphasized the importance of creating moments where individuals can shine regardless of age or background.
“This event, managed completely by care workers, aims to continue evolving to serve the community and foster a new chapter in caregiving,” Yamazaki noted.
The Rising Trend of Care Beauty
Since its establishment two and a half years ago, the Nursing Beauty School in Nagoya has quickly gained traction, attracting over 330 students, predominantly women aged 40-60, eager for a second career in the beauty and welfare sectors. The thriving interest showcases a significant shift towards recognizing caregiving as a vital industry that combines beauty with social service for both caregivers and those they assist.
The participation of the students in LiNK WALK was a culmination of their efforts to gain new skills while genuinely wanting to contribute positively to society through beauty—a transformative challenge.
