Davenport Aviation's Milestone in Military Aviation
Davenport Aviation has achieved a major milestone with the successful completion of the testing phase for the Virtus 'First Shot' system. This groundbreaking testing was conducted in Western Texas last month and serves as a significant step in the evolution of the Virtus modular weapon system specifically tailored for the AS350/H125 platforms.
The testing campaign featured multiple successful missile launches, officially confirming Virtus as a proven weapons configuration compatible with the AS350/H125. The results not only validated the structural integrity and system integration of the Virtus system on the AS350/H125 airframe but also demonstrated its operational readiness for modern military operations.
Rob McMillin, Vice President of Aircraft and Aviation Systems at Davenport Aviation, expressed his enthusiasm at the completion of the first round of testing: "This was a pivotal moment for Davenport Aviation and the Virtus team. The conclusion of this initial series of tests confirms the effectiveness of our technical solution and shows that the H125 helicopter can operate safely and effectively in a combat configuration."
The Virtus system stands out as the world’s first modular weapon system designed specifically for the AS350/H125 series, allowing operators to quickly convert a single aircraft to perform various missions. The assembly and disassembly can be completed in under an hour, enabling seamless transitions between different roles and tasks.
Versatility is at the core of the Virtus system, which supports a range of configurable weaponry from miniguns in pods and unguided rockets to precision-guided munitions and aerial tools. The system also integrates EO/IR sensors, door weaponry options, winches, searchlights, transport capabilities, ballistic protection, and flotation devices, thereby supporting armed reconnaissance missions, ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance), special operations, search and rescue missions, fire fighting, humanitarian assistance, and CASEVAC/MEDEVAC duties.
Chris Arnold, the Director of Government Sales at Davenport Aviation, remarked on the importance of the First Shot success: "This achievement validates our aim to create a truly multi-mission aircraft that provides operators the flexibility without the costs and complexities of traditional military platforms. With Virtus, operators around the globe can meet evolving mission requirements using a single, cost-effective helicopter."
In showcasing the potential of the Virtus, Davenport Aviation has proven that existing fleets can be upgraded, enhancing capabilities while simultaneously reducing acquisition costs, training burdens, and lifecycle expenses.
Davenport Aviation also expressed its gratitude to partners such as XP Services, Moog Inc., and Ember Solutions for their collaboration in realizing this significant project.
With the backing of the proven AS350/H125 platform, the Virtus system is set to revolutionize military aviation, providing operators with advanced capabilities tailored to modern battlefield demands.
