The Yamanashi Junior Ambassador Program, initiated by Imagina Co., Ltd. in collaboration with Ebeshi Co., Ltd. and the Yamanashi Prefectural Government, is set to launch the recruitment for its first cohort of junior ambassadors. This unique program is designed for students in grades 3 to 6 (aged 9-12) and will take place from December 13 to December 16, 2025, over a period of three nights and four days. The program aims to offer a distinctive experience that helps young learners develop essential life skills by engaging with real social issues and the rich natural environment of Yamanashi Prefecture.

A New Approach to Education

In an era where traditional education may not sufficiently prepare children for the challenges of the future, the Yamanashi Junior Ambassador Program stands out as a vital opportunity for participants. They will engage with the design thinking methods developed by Stanford University’s d.school, focusing on problem-solving approaches to create solutions for local challenges. This program is inspired by the best practices of progressive overseas programs such as the School for Field Studies (SFS) and the Sea Education Association (SEA), which emphasize growth through nature. Through stimulating activities, participants will explore subjects in an engaging manner that emphasizes learning from the real world.

Participants will delve into various local issues while learning about sustainability topics like composting from food waste and harvesting winter vegetables. They will act as ‘reporters’ collecting information on regional challenges, furthering their investigative skills. Outstanding proposals may be implemented as real projects, rewarding the children with a genuine sense of contribution.

Building Multilingual Skills and Leadership

All participants will benefit from being accompanied by bilingual staff, creating an inclusive learning environment for children from diverse language backgrounds. The program combines local revitalization with marketing strategies, allowing students to acquire practical skills in English, design, video production, and presentation.
