Credit Union of Southern California Makes Notable Charitable Contributions

The Credit Union of Southern California, known as CU SoCal, has once again demonstrated its commitment to community support via generous contributions to numerous local charities. This summer, CU SoCal donated nearly $260,000 to various nonprofit organizations, enhancing its tradition of 'People Helping People'. This initiative highlights the institution's dedication to empowering local communities across Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino counties.

A Legacy of Giving

CU SoCal has been a pivotal player in community investment since its inception in 1954. Founded as the Whittier Area Schools Federal Credit Union, CU SoCal is deeply entrenched in local values and continuously seeks to extend its support to those in need. President and CEO Dave Gunderson emphasized the organization’s mission of empowering communities, stating, "Our Members make these contributions possible, and together, we're making a lasting difference."

During the 2025 summer charitable tour, CU SoCal visited over 20 nonprofit organizations to surprise them with unexpected donations, marking a continuation of its year-round philanthropic efforts. The amounts received by these organizations ranged from $1,500 to an impressive $34,000, signifying widespread effort to support a variety of causes.

Organizations Benefitted

The contributions went to a diverse groups of organizations dedicated to various missions. Among them were nonprofits focused on youth programs, housing and homelessness, food insecurity, education, and crisis support. Notable recipients included the Interfaith Food Center, Ronald McDonald House of Pasadena, Whittier College, and the Women's and Children's Crisis Shelter. The largest donation represents the first installment of CU SoCal's pledge of up to $100,000 to a particular organization, underlining its commitment to significant long-term partnerships.

The Impact of Community Partnerships

Through its donations, CU SoCal not only provides monetary support but also raises awareness about the pressing issues faced by local communities. The organization believes that by investing in local charities, it can help provide essential services and resources to those who benefit from them the most.

These efforts are made possible by CU SoCal’s impressive financial structure, holding over $3.6 billion in assets and serving more than 180,000 members, all contributing to a robust foundation for charitable contributions. Managing such wealth responsibly allows CU SoCal to sustain its mission while enhancing its community impact.

Looking Ahead

As CU SoCal continues its legacy of generosity, it invites its members to participate in its mission to support the broader community. By choosing to invest in programs that support people's well-being, CU SoCal not only assists in tackling immediate high-priority challenges but also establishes a brighter future for the coming generations. In a world where community support is more essential than ever, CU SoCal remains dedicated to its core value of 'People Helping People'.

The credit union's efforts demonstrate that behind every figure in donations is a story of hope and support, fostering a culture of benevolence and community responsibility. As CU SoCal moves forward with its initiatives, it stands as a model for other financial institutions aiming to make a substantial impact in their regions.
