Circloop Partners with Shinagawa Ward for Sustainability

Overview of the Agreement

Circloop, a company based in Minato City, Tokyo, specializing in reusable container sharing services, has recently signed a partnership agreement with Shinagawa Ward, led by Mayor Kyoko Morisawa. This initiative is part of the ward's environmental basic plan aimed at reducing disposable plastic waste and promoting the use of reusable containers at public facilities and events, thereby fostering a sustainable community.

Under this agreement, Circloop will take responsibility for providing and managing reusable containers as well as supporting their promotion and raising awareness within the local community. Working closely with Shinagawa Ward officials, the company aims to significantly reduce environmental impact in the region.

Key Initiatives Under the Agreement

1. Implementation of Reusable Cups: Starting September 2025, Circloop will install reusable cups in five selected facilities within Shinagawa Ward:
- Shinagawa Industrial Support Exchange Center SHIP
- Environmental Learning Exchange Facility Ecoluto Goshi
- Welcome Center Hara
- Gotanda Cultural Center
- Yashio Childcare Support Facility IKUMO
These cups will be available at water refill stations for those equipped with their own bottles, promoting both the use of reusable containers and reducing reliance on disposable options.

2. Food Service at Events: Circloop will facilitate the provision of food and beverages in reusable containers at various events hosted by Shinagawa Ward. This initiative aims not only to reduce disposable waste but also to educate attendees on the importance of sustainable practices.

3. CO2 Reduction Measurement: The partnership will also involve calculations of CO2 reduction achieved from the increased use of reusable containers. Surveys will be conducted with users and participating facilities to track changes in awareness and behavior regarding environmental impacts.

Impact of Reusable Containers

The introduction of reusable containers is expected to facilitate a reduction in single-use options, while simultaneously creating an accessible environment where everyone can easily utilize reusable containers. This effort aims to enhance community awareness of environmental issues and promote behavioral changes that contribute to the sustainable development initiatives within Shinagawa Ward.

Comments from Shinagawa Ward's Environmental Division

The environmental policy outlined in the Shinagawa Ward Environmental Basic Plan aims for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Through this partnership focused on the promotion of reuse and waste reduction, the ward anticipates significant progress in curbing the use of disposable containers and minimizing waste generation.
