Celebrating Success: The 10th Huawei ICT Competition
Today marked the exciting conclusion of the 10th anniversary of the Huawei ICT Competition, held in Shenzhen, China. This year’s competition set a remarkable milestone, with over 220,000 students from more than 2,000 institutions across 100 countries and regions participating, making it the largest edition in the competition’s history.
Awards Ceremony Highlights
During the grand awards ceremony, Ritchie (Honghua) Peng, President of Huawei’s ICT Strategy and Business Development Department, emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging technology for positive purposes and sustainable social and environmental development. He remarked that the innovative competition illustrated the effectiveness of learning through contests as a means of addressing real-world challenges. Participants showcased their dedication, curiosity, and deep technical focus through practical and programming competitions.
In a notable addition for the upcoming year, Peng announced the implementation of a new development track for AI Ascend operators in mainland China, designed to allow young developers to engage more directly with cutting-edge industrial technologies through challenge-based roles.
Dr. Shafika Isaacs, Deputy Director at the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, praised the partnership between UNESCO and Huawei, highlighting the participants’ outstanding performances. She stressed the importance of collaboration among governments, international organizations, academia, and the industry in preparing for a future driven by AI. Dr. Isaacs pointed out ongoing initiatives, such as AI capability-building programs in Arab countries and ICT education partnerships in Central Asia and the Caucasus, aimed at strengthening higher education and vocational training systems while developing future-ready talents.
Showcasing Global Talent
This year, students demonstrated their ability to apply new technologies to real-world challenges across cultural boundaries, which not only showcased their creativity but also their responsible approach to technology—embodying the very purpose of education. The competition featured a rich variety of practical tasks and innovations, with the following teams taking home top honors:
- - Main Prize in the Networking Track: Teams from Algeria, Brazil, Nigeria, and Shenzhen Polytechnic.
- - Main Prize in the Cloud Track: Teams from Egypt, Algeria, Central South University of Forestry and Technology, and Kenya.
- - Main Prize in the Computing Track: Teams from Egypt, Henan University of Economics and Business, and the Dominican Republic.
- - Main Prize in the AI Ascend Track: Shenzhen Polytechnic.
- - Main Prize in Innovations: Wuhan University of Technology, Ahmadu Bello University, National University of Singapore, and Fujian Normal University.
- - Main Prize in Programming: Wuhan Software and Engineering Vocational School.
Special Awards
Several special awards were presented during the ceremony as well. The “Women in Technology” award honored seven all-female teams from Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Kenya, China, and Bahrain. The “Green Development” award went to two teams from Ghana and China. Additionally, ten students from China received quick access passes into Huawei's Future Business Leader Track program.
The “Most Valuable Instructor” award recognized 16 exceptional instructors from nine countries and regions, including Pakistan, China, Nigeria, Egypt, the UAE, Brazil, Thailand, and Turkey. Teams from Egypt, Brazil, Malaysia, Poland, and Pakistan won the online popularity award in the ICT competition.
Future Prospects
As demand for talent in AI, computing, big data, and cybersecurity continues to grow, the Huawei ICT Competition provides students with an international platform to develop practical skills, address real-world challenges, and prepare for the digital economy through collaboration between industry and academia, as well as shared educational resources.
In conjunction with the global finals, Huawei also hosted a summit focused on accelerating education transformation through AI, featuring a presentation on the ICT Academy AI Course and issuing a skills development report with recommendations for nine countries in Central Asia and the Caucasus.
Overall, this year’s Huawei ICT Competition was a testament to the incredible talent and innovative spirit of students worldwide, highlighting their readiness to tackle future challenges and contribute to a technology-driven society.
