Mega Shrimp Fry: A Initiative for Miyako's Resurrection
In a bold move to support local economies, the Redhorse Corporation, based in Sumida, Tokyo, has launched an exciting collaboration with Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture. Focusing on revitalizing the region's economy, they have developed a unique product for the hometown tax scheme: the "Mega Shrimp Fry," featuring 18cm Black Tigers. This collaboration not only highlights the exceptional seafood resources of the Sanriku Coast but also marks a significant step towards restoring the area affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Collaborating for Revival
Miyako City, renowned for its rich fishing grounds in the Sanriku region, suffered devastating losses during the earthquake. Many processing facilities were destroyed, and although they are now being reconstructed, they have not yet returned to their former glory. Understanding the importance of local processors, Redhorse Corporation conducted thorough research and partnered with Maruyoshi Shimaka, a long-established seafood processing company in Miyako. Together, they have channeled their respective strengths—Redhorse's procurement expertise and Maruyoshi Shimaka's frying technology—to craft the Mega Shrimp Fry, which has been officially registered as an attractive return gift for tax donations.
A Unique Product with Local Flair
The Mega Shrimp Fry has quickly gained popularity for its astonishing size and flavor. With a unique crispy coating and the use of Black Tiger shrimp sourced through Redhorse's connections, this product has become a standout in the world of local donations. Feedback from taste test participants has been overwhelmingly positive, praising its crunchy exterior and substantial shrimp inside. Children have been particularly taken by its size, likening it to jumbo shrimp fries they've never experienced before.
On July 11, the product was launched on the MyNavi Hometown Tax site, where it achieved the number one spot in the municipality's rankings, fueling optimism for the future expansion of their donation efforts.
Expanding the Product Line
The collaboration with Maruyoshi Shimaka is just the start. Redhorse Corporation is working on several other products aimed at enhancing the attractiveness of Miyako's hometown tax offerings. They aim to capture around 20% of the city's donation market, thus supporting local fisheries and revitalizing the area’s economy.
The Mega Shrimp Fry is available in several packages:
- - 5 pieces for ¥8,000
- - 10 pieces for ¥11,000
- - 20 pieces for ¥18,500
Prices may vary across different donation sites, including Amazon and Rakuten. Ensuring accessibility and convenience, Redhorse Corporation has partnered with a total of 17 different platforms for donations.
A Community-Centric Approach
Redhorse Corporation isn't just supporting local products; it is also dedicated to fostering collaborative product development tailored to community needs. Engaging with over 50 municipalities nationwide and developing more than 100 different items, their mission is to bolster local brands and expand sales channels.
This initiative is all about creating stories that connect with people, enhancing local producers' profiles, and protecting regional food cultures. They believe that involving the community in product development can serve as a catalyst for a surge in local production, enriching the cultural tapestry of the region, and instilling enthusiasm among local residents.
Through active collaboration and innovative product development, Redhorse Corporation is putting Miyako City back on the map, bringing vibrancy and pride to its community.
