Cherry Street Energy Expands Its Renewable Energy Portfolio through Strategic 16-Site Acquisition

Cherry Street Energy Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio

In a significant move towards enhancing its renewable energy capabilities, Cherry Street Energy, a preeminent provider of distributed generation in the Southeast, has announced the acquisition of 16 operational solar projects from Inman Solar. This acquisition marks a substantial advancement in Cherry Street's strategy for growth and development within the renewable energy sector.

The newly acquired sites contribute an impressive 12.7 megawatts (MW) of capacity across five states: Georgia, Florida, Washington D.C., South Carolina, and Michigan. In Georgia alone, where Cherry Street's operations are primarily based, the company adds 7.3 MW (DC) with an average contract tenure exceeding 20 years. Additionally, the other states will contribute 5.4 MW with an average tenure of 15 years. This strategic acquisition is expected to generate an annual baseline production of 20,073 megawatt-hours (MWh), significantly bolstering Cherry Street's capabilities in its operational markets.

Most of the acquired projects are situated in Georgia, benefiting from energy and renewable characteristics sold to Georgia Power under the state's solar programs approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission. This solidifies Cherry Street's positioning as a leader in renewable energy asset ownership and operation throughout the Southeastern region.

The diversification of revenue streams through utility off-take agreements, paired with Cherry Street's operational expertise in managing solar assets, positions the company to explore broader opportunities in the growing market for distributed and utility-scale renewable energy in the Southeast.

Michael Chanin, the Founder and CEO of Cherry Street Energy, emphasized the company's commitment to building lasting value through power generation asset ownership. He highlighted that these new sites are ripe for future integration of battery storage technologies, enhancing their overall value while supporting regional economic development.

Cherry Street recognizes the potential for battery storage integration as a vital asset during peaking periods of energy demand. Plans are underway to evaluate the co-location of energy storage systems at these sites, enabling the projects to offer dispatchable renewable power, thereby increasing their utility and supporting grid reliability amid rising renewable energy penetration.

The acquisition presents win-win outcomes for both companies: Inman Solar transitions to focus on its primary business of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services, while Cherry Street meaningfully expands its portfolio of long-term generating assets. This acquisition follows a series of strategic investments by the company in solar initiatives throughout the Southeast.

Otso Lehmussaari, Vice President at Inman Solar, noted the pleasant and efficient transaction process with Cherry Street, expressing confidence that the projects will benefit from Cherry Street's dedication to long-term performance and value creation.

Looking ahead, Cherry Street plans to further its acquisition strategy throughout 2026, pursuing both operational and late-stage development projects while continuing to deliver renewable energy solutions timely to municipalities, educational institutions, and manufacturing enterprises.
