Huawei and JA Solar Launch Green Education Project in Thailand

In a progressive move towards a sustainable future, Huawei, alongside JA Solar, UNESCO, and the Thai Ministry of Education, has officially launched the Green Education Project in Thailand. Announced on December 3, 2024, this initiative aims to cultivate a new generation of students equipped with eco-friendly skills and digital literacy.

The launch event took place at the Banna District Learning Encouragement Center in Nakhon Nayok, where a newly installed solar energy system symbolizes the project’s commitment to integrating renewable energy solutions in educational frameworks. David Li, CEO of Huawei Thailand, remarked, "The Green Education Project is not just a corporate social responsibility initiative; it is an investment in the youth and future of Thailand. By blending clean energy solutions with practical education, we aim to create a model of sustainable growth and inclusivity."

This ambitious project is part of Huawei's TECH4ALL initiative, focused on bridging the digital divide and promoting sustainable development. It will provide clean energy solutions and ICT training to eleven schools and community centers throughout Thailand. In areas that often face educational and energy accessibility issues, this project will serve as a crucial step in addressing these challenges.

The educational framework comprises three main pillars:
1. Green Schools for Secondary Education: This program will see solar panels installed on secondary school rooftops and will provide training for teachers and students about the benefits and mechanisms of sustainable energy.
2. Green Schools for Vocational Education: This aspect aims at hands-on training for students at technical and vocational institutions, enabling them to work directly with photovoltaic systems and equipping them for careers within the burgeoning renewable energy sector.
3. Green Communities: Through this component, public libraries and learning centers will receive support for renewable energy programs and mobile digital education initiatives. This includes the Digital Bus by Huawei, which has already reached ten remote provinces in Thailand and trained approximately 4,500 students. Courses offered cover green energy, cybersecurity awareness, and telecommunications basics.

The reception of the Green Education Project among local schools and educators has been overwhelmingly positive. Tisakorn Klinbooppha, director of the Banna District Learning Encouragement Center, highlighted the project's potential, stating, "This initiative exemplifies the powerful impact that collaboration between global companies and local educational institutions can manifest. The donated solar equipment will offer our students invaluable hands-on experience with renewable energy systems, giving them a competitive edge in the job market."
