In an innovative move to foster inclusivity and comfort for all guests, Kyoritsu Maintenance Co., the company behind the well-known
Dormy Inn and
Kyoritsu Resort, has unveiled larger-sized original bathing attire designed specifically for those feeling apprehensive about using public baths due to surgical scars or skin exposure.
This initiative follows feedback from customers expressing concerns about their body image during bathing experiences. Starting from a program introduced in March 2023, the hotels began offering complimentary ready-made bathing attire tailored to women with surgical scars, such as those recovering from breast cancer or skin transplants. The initiative has now extended to support male guests, kicking off the development of a tailor-made bathing garment that can accommodate variations in body types and gender.
The new bathing attire is provided free of charge in all
Dormy Inn and
Kyoritsu Resort facilities nationwide, totaling 140 hotels. The company strongly believes that everyone should feel comfortable and confident while enjoying a relaxing soak in the hot springs.
In line with this commitment, each property has started displaying posters welcoming the use of these specialized garments in the large communal baths, promoting a greater understanding among all guests and encouraging open discussions around the topic. While the hotels primarily direct guests to bring their own bathing attire, they also offer disposable one-piece bathing suits for those who may not be familiar with the option.
Background and Service Extension
This initiative emerged from the delivery of customer requests to create a safe and comfortable bathing environment. The original concept was geared towards women, but after receiving feedback from male customers who were hesitant to bathe due to scars on their backs, the company collaborated with manufacturers to design a versatile bathing suit capable of accommodating different body shapes without compromising comfort or hygiene.
The key features of the swimming attire include a material that offers stretch for easy wear and removal, a design that minimizes buoyancy in water, and clever construction that discreetly covers scars while maintaining a stylish appearance.
Though there are free suits available, guests are advised to check in advance as supplies may be limited in certain facilities. The overarching goal of Kyoritsu Maintenance is to cultivate an environment where everyone can savor the indulgence of a hot bath without concern.
