mt ex at Horikawa Shin Bunka Building
The highly anticipated mt ex exhibition is set to take place from
May 15 to May 31, 2026 at the Horikawa Shin Bunka Building in central Kyoto. This event, organized by Kamoi Kakoshi Co., Ltd., promises a blend of traditional Kyoto craftsmanship and contemporary masking tape creativity. The exhibition is returning to Kyoto after a seven-year hiatus, making it a significant occasion for both locals and tourists.
Located near Nishi Jin, an area known for its vibrant cultural heritage, the event will feature an array of specially designed masking tapes that celebrate Kyoto’s rich cultural tapestry. This year’s theme will intertwine the beauty of Kyoto’s traditions with the innovative designs that mt is known for.
Exclusive Collaborative Items
Visitors will find exclusive masking tape designs available for purchase, created in collaboration with
Mijyu Co., Ltd., the makers behind popular Kyoto sweets like
Otabe and
Kyo Baum. These special items provide a unique way to take home a piece of Kyoto culture. Remember that stock on collaborative items is limited, so arrive early to ensure you don’t miss out.
Café Collaboration
Also part of the exhibition is a limited-time café menu at the event space’s first-floor café and bar,
SLow Page. Here, you can delight in a colorful assortment of themed treats inspired by the event’s visuals, including mint-colored waffles and unique “sweet potato flavor” smoothies. For each collaborative menu item purchased, guests will receive an original novelty tape, while supplies last.
Event Environment
The exhibition space will be decorated with designs that abstractly represent letters and kanji, reflecting the essence of books and literacy, which is fitting as the venue is also a bookstore. This creative decor accentuates the event’s aim to merge the vibrant culture of Kyoto with the artistic spirit of mt masking tape.
What to Expect
The mt exhibition offers a variety of activities and creations that highlight Kyoto’s sweets, traditional crafts, and more:
- - Exclusive designs and items that capture the essence of Kyoto.
- - Hands-on activities, including stamp collecting and a ‘grab-and-go’ tape booth, where guests can take home as much tape as they can grab in 20 seconds.
- - An interactive zone with the popular mt capsule gacha, which gives visitors a chance to win unique masking tapes.
Additionally, there will be a
discount corner featuring mt’s new products and outlet items, extending the fun for fans of crafting and design.
As you stroll around the exhibition, take in the lively atmosphere and experience how mt creatively expresses the charm of Kyoto. The exhibition is free to enter, and no reservation is required. Just show up and enjoy the fusion of creativity and culture that this event promises!
