Experience the Modernization Heritage in Itabashi
On October 4, 2023, Itabashi Ward in Tokyo will host a special open day at the Historic Army Itabashi Powder Factory, which was designated as a national historical site in 2017. As a highlight of the national initiative for the public exploration of modern heritage, the event aims to showcase the historical significance of modernization in Japan and to gather support for the new Itabashi Historical Park set to open in fiscal year 2039.
The open day is part of a campaign organized by the National Association for the Promotion of Modern Heritage and the Cultural Affairs Agency. Public interest in Japan’s modernization heritage continues to grow, and this event serves to enrich community knowledge while fostering enthusiasm for the forthcoming park, aimed at preserving and utilizing modern heritage sites.
Last year's event saw over 700 visitors flock to view the site without any prior registration required, making it a huge success. This year, the event has expanded its visiting hours and will include guided tours led by curators. To further enhance the experience, a kitchen car from Mos Burger will also make its debut, allowing attendees to enjoy delicious meals. This family-friendly event promises to be a fun outing to spark curiosity about Japan's modernization history.
