Michael Bland Appointed as Executive Director of Black Men Vote to Enhance Voter Engagement

Michael Bland Takes the Reins as Executive Director for Black Men Vote

On April 17, 2025, Black Men Vote (BMV) proudly introduced Michael Bland as their new Executive Director. With more than ten years of leadership experience in nonprofit initiatives and political strategy, Bland is focused on promoting equity-oriented policies, building coalitions, and advocating effectively at the executive level.

Frank White, co-founder and Board Chair of BMV, highlighted Bland's substantial expertise in political mobilization as a key reason for this appointment. He expressed confidence that Bland's guidance will empower Black men to embrace their political influence, steering the organization towards new heights.

Before stepping into this role, Bland held significant positions in notable political campaigns. Most recently, he acted as Southern Regional Director and Senior Advisor for Faith Engagement during the Harris for President campaign, steering strategy in strategic states while also leading efforts to engage national faith leaders. His previous tenure as National Director at Education Reform Now showcased his capabilities in training and mobilizing over 400 fellows, while also supporting the election of nearly 100 Black and Brown leaders, underscoring his commitment to improving representation and visibility in grassroots movements.

Bland's experience also includes managing Congresswoman Jahana Hayes' historic election, marking the first time an African American woman represented New England. His effective strategies turned the electoral tide in Nash County historically, making it a noteworthy win in the U.S. political landscape. A proud alumnus of the University of Rhode Island, Bland also dedicates time to various nonprofit boards and affiliations, including the Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons.

Upon accepting his new role, Bland expressed his gratitude and determination. "It is an honor to join Black Men Vote at such a pivotal moment for our country," he stated. "I strongly believe in the transformative potential of engaging Black men in shaping America's future. My goal is to build on BMV's incredible momentum to ensure our collective voices are not only heard but respected and represented."

Bland pointed out a significant issue in contemporary politics: the consistent exclusion of Black men from polls and electoral strategies. He noted, "At this critical inflection point, it's essential to genuinely connect with Black men in ways that resonate with their unique experiences, both civically and electorally. The work ahead is substantial, but I am fully ready to face this challenge head-on."

Based in Washington, DC, Bland will spearhead the strategic direction of the organization, oversee fundraising initiatives, and drive programmatic efforts aimed at enhancing political engagement among Black men.
