Eli Lilly Launches Employer Connect to Enhance Access to Obesity Treatment Options for Patients
Eli Lilly Launches Employer Connect Platform
Eli Lilly and Company has announced the launch of its Employer Connect platform, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at expanding access to obesity management medications for employees across the United States. With over fifteen independent program administrators on board, the platform is designed to bridge the access gap that many patients face when seeking effective obesity treatment.
Understanding the Need for Better Access
The statistics are staggering: obesity affects more than 100 million American adults and imposes a staggering cost of over $1.7 trillion on the U.S. economy each year, which includes nearly $480 billion in direct medical expenditures and $1.24 trillion in lost productivity. Despite being a chronic condition, access to obesity management medications varies significantly among employer-sponsored health plans, leaving approximately half of commercially insured workers without coverage for essential treatments.
Ilya Yuffa, executive vice president and president of Lilly USA, emphasized that for many living with obesity, the ability to maintain treatment is not solely a medical choice but often a matter of access influenced by coverage and out-of-pocket costs. Lilly's new program aims to provide a solution by connecting employers with a variety of independent program administrators, offering a spectrum of flexible, transparent solutions tailored to meet their employees' needs.
Innovative Employer Access Solutions
Through its Employer Connect initiative, Lilly has partnered with various independent program administrators and pharmacy networks to facilitate the distribution of its obesity management medication, Zepbound® (tirzepatide). Employees can obtain the Zepbound KwikPen®—a device that allows for easy, single-patient use—available at a discounted price of $449 for all dosage levels. Furthermore, reduced cost-sharing options will be provided, enabling employers to design benefit programs that align with their budgetary constraints and the unique needs of their workforce.
Lilly is not just offering a product but providing a comprehensive access program that includes partnerships with renowned pharmacies like HealthDyne and CenterWell, ensuring nationwide availability. Employers can choose from various administrators that offer holistic health solutions, from managing obesity comprehensively to simplifying benefits administration. Kevin Hern, Senior Vice President of Lilly Employer, stated that this initiative aims to
