Canon Marketing Japan's New Identity Verification Solution
In an effort to enhance security and efficiency, Canon Marketing Japan Inc. (President: Masachika Adachi) has unveiled an upgraded version of its Identity Verification Support Solution. This innovative service is designed to read IC chip information from identification documents and seamlessly integrate it into the operational systems of financial institutions. Starting September 16, 2025, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank (President: Junichi Hanzawa) will implement this solution in its branches, significantly tightening identity verification processes and streamlining operations.
Addressing New Challenges in the Banking Sector
As the financial sector grapples with labor shortages, the demand for improved customer convenience and the advent of digital solutions, institutions are moving towards adopting next-generation storefront operations. However, the increased sophistication of financial crimes has prompted the Financial Services Agency to enforce stricter identity verification processes for both online and in-person transactions. This has made it essential to optimize the identity verification operations mandated by the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds (herein referred to as the Anti-Money Laundering Law).
Canon MJ’s enhanced Identity Verification Support Solution is a direct response to these challenges. By integrating technology that reads the IC chip information on identity documents, the service strengthens the verification capabilities of branches, thereby improving efficiency and compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering Law. This integration with Hitachi's eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) support service ensures that required face-to-face procedures—such as manual verification of appearance and document assessment—are significantly reduced. As a result, this alleviates the burdens on bank staff while enhancing customer experience and reducing transaction times.
Continuous Optimization of Verification Processes
Since the introduction of its Identity Verification Support Solution in November 2024, Canon MJ has been actively supporting banks in optimizing complete processes, from verifying the authenticity of identification documents to linking verification results with operational systems. This solution combines governmental compliance with user-friendly services through public personal authentication (JPKI), ensuring safety and convenience. Moreover, it offers a card reader SDK and API to allow seamless integration with existing systems or systems from other vendors, tailored to meet diverse financial institutions' needs.
With the amendments to the Anti-Money Laundering Law projected for April 2027, Canon MJ aims to further enhance the precision of identity verification, thereby facilitating quality improvements in financial services.
Broadening the Scope of Solutions
Looking ahead, Canon MJ plans to extend the capabilities of its Identity Verification Support Solution beyond financial institutions to various sectors requiring identity verification. As customer needs evolve, they aim to provide optimal solutions that drive innovation in business processes across different industries.
