Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 Global Final Concludes



On May 26, 2025, Shenzhen hosted the successful closing ceremony of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025, marking the ninth iteration of this prestigious event. This year, the competition reached unprecedented participation, attracting over 210,000 students and educators from over 2,000 higher education institutions across more than 100 countries and regions. After rigorous national and regional contests, 179 teams from 48 different countries advanced to the global finals.

The competition consisted of three primary categories—Practical Skills, Innovation, and Programming—where 18 outstanding teams from nine countries claimed top honors. The awards for the Innovation category went to teams from the Bulacan State University in the Philippines, Beijing University of Technology in China, and the Technical Sciences Faculty at the University of Kragujevac in Serbia, as well as the Faculty of Science and Technology at Moulay Ismail University in Morocco.

In the Practical Skills - Networks category, winners included teams from the Shenzhen Institute of Computing Technology in China, Federal Institute of Tocantins in Brazil, Federal University of Technology in Nigeria, and a joint team from the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology and University of Dodoma in Tanzania. For Practice - Cloud, honors went to teams from iACADEMY in the Philippines, Batna 2 University in Algeria, Tianjin University of Technology and Education, and Singapore University of Social Sciences. The main awards for Practice - Computing were granted to teams from the Guilin University of Electronic Technology in China, Federal University of Technology in Nigeria, University of Bydgoszcz, and the High State School of Computer Science in Algeria, along with University of the Philippines Cebu.

The Programming category's main prize went to the Shenzhen University of Technology, recognizing their exceptional coding prowess. Special awards were also presented to acknowledge achievements beyond technical excellence. The Women in Tech Award was given to four women-led teams from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Kenya. The Green Development Award for sustainable initiatives went to a team from Ghana, while the Most Valuable Instructor Award recognized 18 exceptional educators from ten countries, including China, Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, Hungary, and Turkey, for their commitment to ICT education.

In his opening speech, Ritchie Peng, Director of ICT Strategy and Business Development at Huawei, highlighted the competition's role in promoting learning through competition to inspire innovation. He emphasized that the Practical Skills category aligns with their vision for an Intelligent World by 2030, encouraging students to develop critical skills in areas like cloud computing, big data, and AI to contribute to social advancement. The Innovation competition focuses on green development and digital inclusion, motivating entrants to tackle real-world challenges in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and education using ICT.

As global digital transformation accelerates, the demand for skilled professionals in AI, big data, and cybersecurity is becoming more apparent. To address this shortfall in key areas, the Huawei ICT Competition incorporates various categories, fostering collaboration between industry and academia while adapting curricula to meet current demands. These initiatives aim to equip students with essential skills and support the next generation of tech talent to thrive in an increasingly digital and intelligent world.

During this year's competition, Huawei also organized the AI Accelerating Education Transformation Summit to discuss how AI can enhance educational change, featuring expert insights on the pivotal role AI plays in enhancing smart education. Additionally, Huawei announced the introduction of AI features to the Huawei ICT Academy, making it easier and more efficient for educators and students to use. This signifies yet another step towards advancing educational digitization.
