BodyHoliday Announces New Global Leadership to Promote International Expansion and Wellness Tourism
BodyHoliday Welcomes New Global Leadership Team
BodyHoliday, the operator behind the Caribbean's pioneering wellness resort, has officially announced the formation of a new global leadership team poised to steer the company into a vibrant phase of international expansion. This strategic move signals BodyHoliday’s commitment to broadening its reach, particularly through the launch of its inaugural European property, BodyHoliday Algarve, located in Portugal.
The new leadership team is an impressive ensemble, drawing talent from premier brands including Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), and Soho House. This diverse group brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in luxury hospitality, all aimed at enhancing the BodyHoliday brand that has become synonymous with wellness travel since its inception in 1988.
Expansion Plans into Europe
With the global wellness tourism market projected to hit $9 trillion by 2028, as reported by the Global Wellness Institute, BodyHoliday is strategically expanding beyond its Caribbean roots to establish a foothold in Europe. Leading this ambitious evolution is Andrew Barnard, CEO of SunSwept Resorts, who boasts over 25 years of extensive experience in the luxury wellness sector.
“Our philosophy revolves around the belief that true wellness should be intuitive and grounded in body awareness rather than rigid routines,” Barnard remarked. “As we venture into Portugal, we are creating a sanctuary where our guests can rediscover joy, reignite passion, and restore balance to their lives.”
BodyHoliday Algarve: A New Gem
Scheduled to open in 2029, BodyHoliday Algarve is set to be a five-star retreat located along Portugal's Eastern Algarve. Just a short drive from Faro International Airport, this site promises to offer serene escapes alongside the breathtaking scenery of Ria Formosa nature reserve and golden beaches. The resort, designed by the prestigious London-based architecture firm Gensler, will cover an impressive 26 acres and features a design that harmonizes with its natural surroundings.
The Algarve location will boast 175 luxurious guest rooms and suites, five distinct dining options, and a sprawling 40,000-square-foot wellness center outfitted with over 40 treatment rooms. Guests can dive into a state-of-the-art fitness complex and multiple swimming pools, including a striking negative-edge dune pool that seamlessly integrates with the landscape. Additional features include beautifully landscaped gardens, a FIFA-standard soccer field, and a racquet center equipped for tennis and padel sports, alongside BodyHoliday's signature health and fitness programs.
A Milestone in Leadership
Barnard expressed that the formation of this new leadership team marks a significant milestone in BodyHoliday’s journey. “As a family-run operation, we have always held our unique values and personal connections in high esteem. This new world-class team will not only enhance the management of existing properties but also facilitate the growth of BodyHoliday resorts in various prime locations. Thus, we remain true to our heritage while laying a sustainable groundwork for future expansion,” he stated.
Among the leadership team are Indu Brar, who brings over 30 years of luxury hotel experience, and Jean-Charles Denis, a finance leader with a decade of expertise at IHG. Kevin Bundy rounds out the executive team as a project director who has previously led major developments, including the historic Battersea Power Station.
In addition to the executive team, the board features distinguished non-executive members including Jeremy Plummer, former Global Chief Investment Officer at CBRE Investment Management, and Alice Avis MBE, former CEO of The Sanctuary Spa Group.
“This new chapter for BodyHoliday is pivotal,” stated Plummer. “With such an exceptional leadership team in place, we will honor our rich legacy while paving the way for the next generation of transformative wellness destinations.”
