Petco Love Welcomes Chelsea Staley as New President Following Kogut's Retirement
Petco Love Welcomes a New Leader
Petco Love, a national nonprofit organization known for its commitment to improving the lives of pets and the communities that cherish them, has officially announced the appointment of Chelsea Staley as its new President. This transition follows the retirement of Susanne Kogut, who has led the organization since 2013. Under her guidance, Petco Love has made significant strides in animal welfare and lifesaving initiatives, marking the end of an era.
Chelsea Staley ascends to this esteemed position after serving as the Director of Lifesaving at Petco Love since 2020. Her vast experience in animal welfare leadership, shelter operations, and community-based initiatives has primed her for this new role. Staley’s leadership style has always highlighted strategic data-driven approaches, ensuring that more pets find their way to loving homes.
The outgoing President, Susanne Kogut, has been recognized for her transformative impact on the organization. Her tenure is distinguished by the successful launch of initiatives such as Petco Love Lost, a free and searchable platform dedicated to reuniting lost pets with their families across the nation. Thanks to her efforts, Petco Love has invested over $430 million into lifesaving initiatives and found homes for more than 7.1 million pets in collaboration with Petco and community partners.
Reflecting on her career at Petco Love, Kogut stated, “Serving as President of Petco Love was one of the greatest honors of my life. The compassion and commitment shown by the animal welfare community continue to inspire me every day. I take pride in what we have achieved together and am thrilled to pass the baton to Chelsea. Her strategic vision makes her the ideal leader for our next chapter.”
Chelsea Staley expressed her excitement for her new role, stating, “I am honored to step into this position and will work closely with the Petco Love Board of Directors and Petco's leadership to continue our vital mission. Together, we will build on Petco Love's strong foundation, pursuing opportunities to enhance our lifesaving impact for pets and their families.”
In her previous role, Staley succeeded in managing national lifesaving programs and strengthening partnerships with pet shelters. Her commitment to data-driven strategies has empowered Petco Love to adopt effective methodologies that improve the odds for pets to find safety and love. Joe Venezia, Petco Love's Chairman of the Board, emphasized the Board's confidence in Staley’s leadership, believing she will excel in guiding the organization’s important mission in the years to come.
As the organization transitions to Staley's leadership, there is a remarkable synergy among the Petco Love team, boasting a combined 70 years of experience in animal welfare. Kogut will assist during the transition, ensuring the continuity of Petco Love’s ongoing initiatives and impact.
Petco Love, founded in 1999, has consistently advanced its mission to create stronger, healthier communities through the love of pets. Through significant financial investments in animal welfare, the organization has empowered countless shelters and adopted millions of animals, exemplifying the profound bond that exists between humans and their pets.
