Hitachi Solutions Launches Innovative Software for Simplified Development of SDV Automotive Software

Hitachi Solutions Launches Advanced Solution for SDV Software Development

On January 15, Hitachi Solutions announced the launch of an innovative application lifecycle management (ALM) tool integration with PTC’s Codebeamer® designed to enhance the efficiency of software development for Software Defined Vehicles (SDV). As the automotive industry shifts increasingly towards SDVs, the complexities of onboard software development demand sophisticated solutions to maintain quality and streamline processes.

The integration of Hitachi’s Circular Test Automation Software with Codebeamer tackles the prevalent issue of data fragmentation. In the context of SDV software development, test cycles and development process data traditionally exist in silos, making it challenging to ensure both quality and efficiency. By facilitating the automatic reflection of simulation test results into Codebeamer, this new integration aims to unify data management, enabling seamless tracking from test specifications to actual outcomes.

Key Features of the Solution

1. Elimination of Data Fragmentation

The solution fosters collaboration between test cycles and the development process. This integration supports quick software updates, allowing developers to respond promptly to changes while ensuring a cohesive workflow.

2. Real-Time Monitoring of Test Results

It enables the real-time monitoring of test results, thereby facilitating early detection of any quality issues. This proactive approach prevents minor problems from growing into significant challenges.

3. Enhanced Productivity Through Data Utilization

By leveraging historical test data, the solution streamlines retesting processes and the design of similar case scenarios. This enhancement significantly improves overall productivity.

Background of the Initiative

With the rise of autonomous vehicles, electric cars, and connected automobiles, the trend towards SDVs has accelerated, intensifying the complexity of onboard software. Model-based development (MBD) has emerged as a vital methodology to identify and rectify design flaws early in the development cycle, thereby ensuring efficiency, flexibility, and quality within the SDV framework. Given the increasing frequency of software changes and the corresponding rise in testing, there is a growing emphasis on automating test cycles.

However, while automation is on the rise, the management of extensive test scenarios and resultant artifacts has remained labor-intensive and cumbersome. Data within individual tools is often fragmented, creating gaps that challenge effective quality assurance processes.

To address these challenges, Hitachi Solutions has been developing software capable of automating test cycles and managing test scenarios and results centrally by 2025. The newly launched Circular Test Automation Software integrated with ALM tools now efficiently bridges the data between test cycles and development processes, facilitating immediate updates to the development side regarding test outcomes.

Technical Requirements and Future Directions

The application will run on Windows 11 (64-bit only) and necessitates the following software for execution:

  • - Codebeamer by PTC Inc.: An ALM tool that manages requirements, tests, and releases within development processes.
  • - Box or Git: Secure cloud storage solutions for managing test results.
  • - MATLAB/Simulink: Used for simulation environments and numerical analysis.

The software will be showcased at the 2026 Automotive World, specifically within the SDV EXPO – a dedicated exhibition for onboard software development from January 21 to 23, 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight.

Hitachi Solutions Commitment

As the automotive industry continues to advance towards SDVs, Hitachi Solutions is dedicated to enhancing the development processes of such vehicles, focusing on creating a safer and more harmonious experience for both humans and machines. The company’s initiatives reflect a commitment to integrating digital transformations into practical applications that address real-world problems.
