Unlocking the Potential of Coffee Waste: Celebrate Circular Economy with ATARAO
In a bid to tackle the increasing waste problem posed by coffee grounds, ATARAO—an innovative coffee roasting company founded by Ergana Design's Aoki and COVE COFFEE ROASTERS' Yamamoto—is leading a new wave of sustainability in coffee production. Their unique approach focuses on converting coffee waste into a valuable resource, transforming used coffee grounds into fuel for roasting new coffee beans.
This one-of-a-kind experience is set to take place on May 30, 2025, coinciding with Japan's 'Zero Waste Day'. During this event, ATARAO aims to educate attendees about the importance of resource circulation while allowing them to savor delicious offerings. From watching the roasting process to tasting the specially crafted coffee, participants will have the opportunity to engage with the community, explore sustainable practices, and enjoy delightful gourmet experiences.

A Message from ATARAO's Aoki
“We are excited to host this event, providing an opportunity to challenge the preconceived notion of coffee grounds as waste. Instead, we aim to showcase how they can be converted into a valuable energy source. We want attendees to immerse in this experience, discover dedicated producers within the framework of sustainability, and feel the potential of resource circulation in the food industry. Together, we can propose a new shape for sustainable food culture.”
