Innovative Relax Booths at Ebisu Garden Place
Starting from October 27, 2025, a groundbreaking project called "Relax Booth" will facilitate a new approach to workplace relaxation at Ebisu Garden Place, located in the Shibuya area of Tokyo. Managed by Sapporo Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., this initiative aims to address the growing need for stress relief and efficiency among urban workers, driven largely by the increasing focus on work-life balance and well-being.
Background and Concept
Recent studies highlight the vital importance of taking short breaks to sustain focus and improve work efficiency. Urban professionals, in particular, face challenges in finding convenient spaces for short respites, contributing to stress and fatigue. In response to this growing concern, the Relax Booth project was developed to provide a private sanctuary for urban workers to recharge during their busy days.
The Relax Booths will be equipped with high-performance massage chairs, offering users a self-contained space where they can unwind away from the pressures of their environment. This service allows for quick reservations and payments through an online platform, enhancing accessibility and convenience. It aims to encourage brief yet rejuvenating breaks that could bolster productivity and mental health.
Previous Trials and Developments
This experiment follows an initial trial conducted between March 19 and April 18, 2025, at the Ebisu Garden Place Tower. That earlier phase aimed to gauge demand for the service and yielded promising results, with 85% of participants being office workers and a remarkable customer satisfaction rate of 94.7%. Feedback from this trial indicated a clear demand for high-quality, short-term relaxation spaces. Participants emphasized the necessity for improvements in user-friendly access and more flexible time options aligned with their needs.
Enhancements for the Second Phase
The forthcoming phase, set to run from late October to late December 2025, will focus on refining the service based on insights gained from the initial experiment. Changes include the implementation of a smart key system that simplifies entry with a four-digit code received upon booking, thus enhancing usability. Additionally, customers will have options from three distinct relaxation packages, tailored to accommodate various needs and preferences.
Situated within the quieter environment of the 'Center Plaza' in Ebisu Garden Place, the Relax Booths will be discreetly accessible, providing an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This location was strategically chosen to cater to the large number of offices in the vicinity, allowing workers easy access during lunch breaks or between tasks.
Data-Driven Improvements
As the project moves forward, the team will continuously analyze usage patterns and satisfaction data from participants. This will inform further adjustments to both service offerings and operational strategies. The goal is to create a flexible style of relaxation that adapts to the varying demands of urban professionals, ultimately enhancing the value of the service.
Through this initiative, Sapporo Real Estate Development envisions generating an engaging and productive environment for workers, promoting a seamless integration of their work and personal time. The Relax Booth represents a significant step in creating urban spaces that align with modern demands for balance and wellness.
