Reju's Significant Move: First Large-Scale Textile Regeneration Center in the US

Reju's First Industrial-Scale Regeneration Center in the U.S.

On January 20, 2026, Reju, a prominent player in textile regeneration, unveiled plans for its first industrial-scale facility in the United States. Located in Rochester, New York, this center marks a pivotal advancement in Reju’s commitment to building a global closed-loop textile system. The site, encompassing 18.9 acres within Eastman Business Park, has ambitious goals—primarily, to regenerate an astounding 300 million textile items each year, which would otherwise contribute to landfill waste. This innovative facility aims to produce rBHET, a recycled polymer that will be repolymerized into Reju PET, reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

The selection of this location not only allows Reju to enhance its operational capabilities but also strategically positions the production nearer to its target markets, embodying a near-shoring strategy. The decision about the investment execution will be finalized by Technip Energies, Reju's parent company.

Patrik Frisk, CEO of Reju, expressed enthusiasm regarding this expansion, stating, "As this is our first regeneration hub in the United States, selecting this location represents a significant step forward in establishing a true closed-loop system. We take pride in introducing sustainable manufacturing and jobs to the Rochester community."

This new facility is to complement existing Reju centers, including the operational demonstration facility at the Regeneration Hub Zero in Frankfurt and the recently announced Regeneration Hub One in Chemelot Industrial Park in Sittard, Netherlands. Reju employs proprietary recycling technologies developed through collaborations with Technip Energies and IBM Research, aimed at transforming textile waste, particularly polyester, into high-quality Reju polyester. Remarkably, the regenerated material offers a carbon footprint that is 50% lower than that of virgin polyester, designed for multiple recycling cycles, effectively reducing industry reliance on fossil resources.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul remarked, "New York State is committed to creating good-paying jobs and supporting innovative projects that reduce landfill waste while protecting our planet. The ambitious Reju project, creating around 70 new jobs at Eastman Business Park, demonstrates how smart investments transform waste into opportunity, further supporting our state's green economy initiatives and opening up a bright future for all."

Jim Moran, President of Eastman Business Park at Kodak, expressed excitement about Reju's arrival, saying, "Kodak warmly welcomes Reju to Eastman Business Park. We look forward to supporting Reju's goal of establishing a system where textile waste is a non-issue, leveraging the unique infrastructure and capabilities that our park offers."

Through partnerships with international brands, companies, and waste collectors, Reju guarantees full traceability of textiles, converting clothing destined for landfills or incineration into resources for the new circular economy. The establishment of the American regeneration center further solidifies Reju’s presence in the U.S. market. "Reju is investing in a future where textile waste is considered a resource, not a problem," added Frisk. "This signals to the market that large-scale circularity is achievable, and the time is ripe to ensure consistent growth in this momentum."
