In a bold move to address heat stress faced by workers, Japanese company Sigmax Inc. launched the project "Fighting the Heat! On-site Heat Stroke Prevention Project". This initiative offers employers in construction, logistics, agriculture, and beyond a chance to rent the next-generation cooling vest, the 'Icing Gear Vest 2', completely free for one week. The vest utilizes a patented hybrid cooling technology that combines a Peltier element and water-cooling, maintaining a comfortable temperature for up to five hours even in extreme conditions exceeding 35°C.
Understanding that heat stroke prevention should be viewed as an investment in productivity rather than just another cost, MEDIAID aims to relay the real voices from the field. The feedback collected from actual users during this campaign is far more persuasive than information from manufacturers alone. By involving ten selected companies, MEDIAID hopes to create an authentic narrative about the challenges blue-collar workers face regarding heat stress.
The campaign runs from May 12 to June 30, 2026, and is open to domestic companies with high-risk heat environments. Participation requires posting a short video on TikTok demonstrating the vest in use, leveraging the power of social media to spread awareness about the heat stroke issues faced by workers in Japan. Participants must also use specific hashtags to engage with the broader community online.
Research shows that workplace heatstroke incidents are at unprecedented levels, with the reform of labor regulations enhancing the legal obligations surrounding heat stroke prevention. Despite a drop in fatalities, the overall number of heat-related injuries has surged, indicating that many businesses are still lagging in their preventive measures. According to a survey of 283 workers in a hot environment, 81.3% acknowledged that heat impacted their work efficiency, and alarmingly, 78.1% rated their company's current heat mitigation strategies as inadequate.
MEDIAID’s innovative 'Icing Gear Vest 2' was developed with the feedback from users in mind. It boasts a unique cooling system allowing for efficient temperature control without the bulk of traditional cooling garments. The product's design prioritizes comfort and usability, ensuring a good fit across a variety of body types with adjustable straps and easy access to initiate the cooling function.
The vest's success is critical, not just for the comfort of workers but as a necessary response to the increasing need for effective temperature management in workplaces where air conditioning isn't viable. As the call for high-performance cooling gear continues to grow, MEDIAID positions itself as a leader in worker support solutions.
