Mynavi and Hibiya High School Collaborate to Tackle Social Issues

Mynavi's Groundbreaking Career Event

Mynavi Corporation, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, initiated a unique career event on March 9, 2026, at its Ginza office in collaboration with Hibiya High School's internal group, NOVINK. This event engaged high school students in discussions about social issues, leveraging the original card game educational tool, "Career Encyclopedia Learned Through Card Games," developed in collaboration with the NPO Corporate Education Research Society in Chiba Prefecture. A total of 22 students from Hibiya High School participated, diving deep into social problem-solving and career exploration.

Background of the Event

As part of its initiatives for nurturing the next generation, Mynavi has been conducting career education classes across Japan, utilizing its original card game educational material. As of the end of February 2025, these classes have reached 9,233 junior high school students in 108 schools across 44 prefectures. The collaboration with NOVINK was born out of inquiries from Hibiya High School students, who sought greater understanding of their connection to society beyond academics and expressed a desire for experiential learning that engages them in active problem-solving.

NOVINK is a student-led group focusing on cultivating connections with society. The school is one of the 20 designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as a leader in global talent development (GE-NET20). The event leveraged students' questions to provide a platform for exploring their future paths and relationships with society, aiming to inspire new insights and triggers for their ongoing inquiry and career choices.

Highlights of the Event

1. Experiencing the Card Game
The event commenced with students engaging in Mynavi's original card game, set in a fictional city called “Maihina.” This city, once thriving due to mining, now faces challenges such as declining population and aging demographics following the mine's closure. Students learned about various industries and the importance of cross-sector collaboration in solving local issues through gameplay.

2. Individual Work: Considering Local Issues
Following the game, students worked individually, adopting perspectives from the four citizens depicted in the game to think about real-life local challenges. They recognized that different roles yield varied insights and priorities regarding local issues.

3. Group Work: Problem-Solving from High Schoolers’ Perspectives
Students collaborated in groups to generate discussion on hypothetical scenarios - such as the effects of a recent film shooting on the area’s tourism - proposing innovative solutions from a youthful standpoint. Suggestions ranged from creating special discounts targeting specific demographics to enhancing food experiences linked to the movie.
The vibrant discussions led students to grasp their responsibilities toward their community and consider the potential social challenges Tokyo might face.

4. Interaction with Mynavi Employees
The event featured five Mynavi employees from diverse career paths sharing their professional experiences and perspectives. Engaging in Q&A sessions deepened the students' understanding and reflections on their career choices, showcasing the interplay between personal aspiration and societal contributions.

Feedback from Participants

Students expressed significant takeaways from their experience:
  • - Discussions opened up views on local challenges they hadn't considered alone, emphasizing the importance of collaborative thinking.
  • - Their initial fun engagement with the card game evolved into a meaningful process of relating learned concepts to actual societal contexts.
  • - Interactions with employees inspired them to connect academic pursuits with community engagement, highlighting the importance of collective effort in addressing societal problems.
  • - Understanding diverse occupations enhanced their awareness of potential career paths, prompting them to seek more information about various professions and work styles.

Mynavi Employees’ Reflections

Employees noted that the event was vital in cultivating student-driven activities, fostering collaboration on complex themes where definitive answers don’t exist. The value derived from shared experiences will hopefully transcend this event, influencing the students’ future endeavors and career decisions. Mynavi remains dedicated to creating more opportunities for young generations to engage with their present and future societal roles.

In a world where multifaceted social challenges exist, initiatives like these play a critical role in shaping informed, proactive young civilians.
