Nikon Instruments Launches New Center of Excellence for Imaging at University of Arizona Cancer Center

Nikon Instruments Expands Imaging Capabilities

Nikon Instruments Inc. has officially opened its newest Center of Excellence at the University of Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson, Arizona. This state-of-the-art imaging facility is designed to elevate the cancer center's research capabilities, making it one of the most sophisticated bioscience imaging centers in the Western United States.

This new Center will complement Nikon's existing global network, which includes over 20 Centers of Excellence located in North America and nearly 40 worldwide. These facilities are dedicated to sharing the latest innovations in imaging technology with various stakeholders, including academic institutions, biotechnology companies, and other entities within the life sciences.

Advanced Imaging Systems

The Tucson facility is equipped with six advanced imaging systems, which offer capabilities such as confocal imaging, super-resolution imaging, multiphoton imaging, and high-content imaging. Furthermore, it provides two image analysis workstations with tools for anesthesia and physiological monitoring, specifically tailored to support small animal intravital imaging. In addition to this, the Center features a shared wet lab and a fully equipped tissue culture facility, facilitating both short and long-term experimental needs.

Workshops and educational programs will also be offered through the Center, aiming to enhance the skills of the local imaging community and foster knowledge sharing among researchers.

Commitment to Scientific Advancement

Andy Davis, the director of sales at Nikon Instruments Inc., emphasized the company's dedication to equipping the scientific community with advanced optical microscopy technologies. He expressed enthusiasm in partnering with the University of Arizona Cancer Center, stating, "We are proud to announce the opening of our newest Center of Excellence and look forward to the new discoveries that we anticipate as a result of this collaboration."

The Center of Excellence is set to be a hub for demonstrations and educational activities, enabling researchers to push boundaries in biomedical imaging. According to Dr. Ghassan Mouneimne, the Current Director of the Microscopy Shared Resource, there is a significant need for imaging technology at cancer centers. He stated, "Making this technology available to the research community will facilitate scientific advancements by empowering scientists to ask new questions and pursue novel experiments."

Enhancing Collaborative Research

Dan Theodorescu, the director of the cancer center, also shared his excitement about the new facility, describing it as an important addition to the high-quality research support already available. He noted, "The Nikon Center of Excellence is a premier addition to the high-quality services the cancer center offers our researchers and the broader regional community. I'm excited to bring this facility to our existing hub of multidisciplinary collaboration."

As Nikon remains committed to advancing imaging technology, its Centers of Excellence play a vital role in promoting discovery and collaboration in the global scientific community.
