F-Pico and Super Matsumoto: Eco Store Collaboration Declaration
In a pioneering effort to promote sustainability, F-Pico Co., Ltd, headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has joined forces with Super Matsumoto Co., Ltd, based in Kameoka, Kyoto. On this occasion, they announced an initiative titled the "Eco Store Collaboration Declaration," aimed at creating a sustainable and circular economy. This declaration reinforces their commitment towards enhancing recycling practices across Super Matsumoto’s 25 stores, primarily located within Kyoto Prefecture, through a unique program called "Store to Store" horizontal recycling.
What is Store to Store Horizontal Recycling?
The "Store to Store" system allows for a seamless recycling process without changing the purpose of the materials before and after recycling. Super Matsumoto will continue its collection efforts for used food trays and transparent containers, which are gathered in collection boxes set up at their stores. These collected resources are processed by F-Pico to create eco-friendly products, which are then returned to Super Matsumoto's stores for reuse. This cycle not only reduces waste but also promotes the idea of horizontal recycling, where the same materials are recycled to serve similar functions.
Strengthening Collaborative Efforts
This announcement marks a significant milestone, as it is expected to enhance the usage of eco-products made from recycled materials in Super Matsumoto’s outlets. The partnership aims to drastically increase CO2 reduction rates. To further this initiative, both companies plan to conduct environmentally-focused awareness events engaging the local community and implement augmented PR strategies utilizing posters and digital signage in stores. This is aimed at encouraging customers to participate more actively in horizontal recycling efforts.
Goals for CO2 Reduction
Super Matsumoto has achieved a remarkable milestone by reducing CO2 emissions by 407 tons in the fiscal year ending March 2026, along with collecting 63 tons of food trays. Following the Eco Store Declaration, they aim to boost the active use of eco-products and increase material collection. For the fiscal year ending March 2027, they have set a goal to raise CO2 emissions reduction to 468 tons, marking an approximate 15% increase compared to the previous period.
Through strategic partnerships and innovative recycling practices, F-Pico and Super Matsumoto are leading the charge towards a greener future while engaging local communities in meaningful environmental initiatives.
