Discover the Unique Handwoven Good Luck Service at Orinami in Asakusa
Located just a three-minute walk from Senso-ji Temple, 'Orinami' (operated by Sankeikaku Co., Ltd, represented by Atsunori Ishida) is set to launch an innovative service tailored for exam success starting October 3, 2025. This new service introduces a specially designed “pentagonal card,” symbolizing “success in exams,” which allows individuals to write their wishes.
A New Approach to Good Luck Charms
Traditionally, prayers for success have been inscribed on rectangular cards, but Orinami has evolved this concept by adopting the pentagonal shape, enhancing the auspiciousness of the prayers. By utilizing threads blessed at the only shrine dedicated to the Cotton God in Japan, visitors can weave their very own good luck charm bags.
Orinami previously offered handwoven charm-making experiences meant for visitors, including tourists and students on school trips, and now, it has developed the “pentagonal good luck wish card.” Participants will write their wishes on this card and place it inside the handwoven charm. This results in a truly unique amulet that embodies their aspirations, which they can carry with them until their examination day.
Background of Development
Preparing for exams is a significant milestone that brings together not only the examinee but also their family, friends, and teachers, all hopeful for success. Orinami recognized the need to provide students with a more meaningful experience. By changing the shape of the wish card from rectangular to pentagonal—representing both the shape itself and the implied meaning of success—Orinami aims to deepen the experience of crafting and carrying a good luck charm. The philosophy behind this is to ensure that even a small handwoven charm keeps the thought of one's wishes close.
