2025 ZGC Forum Highlights Major Advances in Global Sci-tech Cooperation

The 2025 ZGC Forum: A Catalyst for International Sci-tech Collaboration

The 2025 Zhongguancun Forum, held on March 31, 2025, emerged as a pivotal event focused on the advancement of global collaboration in science and technology. Hosted in Beijing, the forum centered on the theme of new quality productive forces, emphasizing significant progress in artificial intelligence (AI) and humanoid robots. Key highlights from the forum illustrate how these innovations are transforming the landscape of science and technology.

AI Takes Center Stage

AI, as a representative of cutting-edge productive forces, was a central theme of the conference. During various parallel sessions, experts from around the globe shared insights on critical topics like embodied AI, artificial general intelligence, and the development of AI talent. Yu Haibin, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stressed that embodied AI is altering our daily lives and work environments, showing immense potential for future applications.

The forum also featured fascinating live demonstrations of humanoid robots. These advanced machines not only entertained attendees with impressive dance performances during the opening ceremony but also provided interactive experiences like shaking hands and waving at visitors. Additionally, some humanoid robots took on roles as receptionists, showcasing their multifunctional capabilities.

Breakthroughs in Sci-tech

On the concluding day of the forum, representatives unveiled 19 significant scientific and technological achievements. Among the standout innovations was a groundbreaking liquid hydrogen-powered truck developed by the Chinese automaker Beiqi Foton. This vehicle is equipped with 23 pioneering technologies, including a liquid hydrogen-compatible fuel cell system capable of exceeding a 1,000 km range, and an innovative thermal management system designed for all climates.

Another remarkable development was the unveiling of the NeuCyber Matrix Brain-Machine Interface (BMI) system. This sophisticated device, created in collaboration between the Chinese Institute for Brain Research and NeuCyber NeuroTech, utilizes advanced microelectrode technology to facilitate communication between a patient’s brain and a muscle stimulation device. In an inspiring case, a stroke survivor who received this implant was able to independently get out of bed the day after surgery, marking a significant milestone in rehabilitation.

Promoting Global Cooperation

The 2025 ZGC Forum has solidified its reputation as an international platform for collaboration, drawing participants from 115 countries and regions, including esteemed genres of Nobel laureates and Turing Award winners. Over 30 technology transfer institutions, 120 academic and research institutes, and more than 2,000 innovative companies showcased their work at the Zhongguancun International Technology Trade Fair. This year's competition attracted over 3,200 projects from 75 countries, highlighting the global effort towards advancements in fields such as biomedicine, AI, and integrated circuits.

Throughout the forum, various mechanisms were established to enhance international sci-tech cooperation. Notably, the Beijing Initiative on Digital Science and Technology was announced during the International Forum on Sciences for Sustainable Development, aiming to foster collaboration in technology development, data sharing, and the establishment of global standards.

Liu Tieyan, president of Zhongguancun Academy, emphasized that the key to advancing sci-tech lies in openness and collaboration, echoing the sentiment that progress in science and technology is a global pursuit that requires unified efforts.

In conclusion, the 2025 ZGC Forum successfully highlighted the dynamic interplay between technological innovation and international cooperation, paving the way for a collaborative future in science and technology. As the world increasingly relies on advancements in AI and other tech innovations, forums like ZGC provide invaluable platforms for fostering dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders in the field.
