Launching Initiatives for Two-Region Residence in Japan

On April 28, 2023, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced an exciting development aimed at revitalizing local communities through the promotion of two-region living. This innovative initiative focuses on enhancing the lifestyle and services available in different regions. The ministry is now accepting applications for three key projects, which will be funded through the supplementary budget for fiscal year 2023.

Overview of the Initiatives

1. Implementation Project for Two-Region Living (先導的プロジェクト)

This project is designed to create and expand the flow of people between two regions, thereby enhancing regional vitality. It focuses on assisting individuals who choose to live in two distinct areas, facilitating easier transitions and better access to necessary services.

2. Demonstration Survey for Model Structure of Specific Residence Support Corporations (特定居住支援法人モデル構築実証調査)

This project will explore the effectiveness of establishing support corporations that focus on individuals living in two regions. By providing tailored services and support, this initiative aims to establish models that can be replicated across various regions.

3. Leading Project for Community Life Area Formation (地域生活圏形成リーディング事業)

Focusing on creating sustainable areas where essential daily services are continually provided, this project seeks to define the characteristics of a comfortable living environment in different regions. The idea is to foster collaboration among local businesses, services, and residents to ensure that community needs are effectively met.
