Exciting Culinary Showdown in Kochi
On June 1st, HBC will air a new episode of "Soroete Tsukure! Shin Meibutsu Gochisou Bingo," featuring a captivating culinary challenge set in Kochi Prefecture. Known for beloved dishes like "Katsuo no Tataki" and "Nuta," Kochi is rich in both marine and mountain delicacies, harking back to its deep-rooted food culture.
The show aims to shine a light on Kochi's diverse culinary offerings as two rising star chefs embark on a journey through local markets and lush mountains, each seeking to craft a new signature dish.
The chefs are divided into two teams: Chef Ryuji Tejima and talent Suzu Yamauchi, vs. Chef Miki Morieda and figure skater Kanako Murakami, all led by the main host, Shingo Murakami.
Unique Culinary Concepts and Team Dynamics
The primary focus of the show revolves around how the two chefs, under the pressure of a limited timeframe, take local ingredients and remix them into innovative recipes using a Bingo card filled with trending keywords.
With Chef Ryuji Tejima—who has earned a Michelin star at "Restaurant Pages" in Paris—bringing his French training to the table, he challenges traditional Korean ingredients and adds his unique flair to elevate them. In contrast, Chef Miki Morieda is known for his sustainable cooking practices, aiming to explore and exploit local resources to their utmost potential.
Throughout the show, viewers will witness chefs sourcing fresh ingredients directly from markets and farms, allowing them a close-up look at the meticulous process of culinary creation.
Host's Perspective
In an engaging commentary, host Shingo Murakami emphasized the show's highlights: "This program encapsulates the passion of local producers and embodies the essence of new culinary possibilities. Watching the end products evolve from attractive presentations to potential local treasures is incredibly compelling. Chef Tejima articulated that these dishes could become beloved local icons with community adaptation in the future, a sentiment that resonates deeply with the heart of this culinary exploration."
Behind the Scenes with the Supporters
Suzu Yamauchi and Kanako Murakami, serving as supporters for their respective chefs, shared their unique experiences at the shoot. Yamauchi mentioned, "Kochi is full of delightful culinary choices, and being on this shooting location has opened my eyes to the various methods of preparing Katsuo, for instance, as I saw on-site. It was delightful to experience such diversity within just two days!"
Kanako echoed this enthusiasm, stating, "It was fascinating to see how each chef approached ingredient selection differently, resulting in uniquely personal dishes. It highlighted how varied local tastes can be while reinforcing that Kochi residents enjoy their drinks, as observed at Hirose Market. This entire endeavor has been such a fun learning experience!"
