New Leadership at New York Blood Center Enterprises
The New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe) recently announced a significant change in its leadership, appointing Dr. Meghan Delaney, DO, MPH, as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. This decision follows a thorough national search and highlights the organization's commitment to maintaining a high standard of excellence in the life sciences sector.
Dr. Delaney is set to take over on January 4, 2027, succeeding Dr. Christopher D. Hillyer, MD, who has dedicated his time and expertise to NYBCe since 2009. Under Dr. Hillyer's stewardship, NYBCe transformed from a regional blood center into a prominent life sciences institution serving a vast network that spans 16 states and over 550 hospitals. His retirement will not mark the end of his involvement; instead, he will transition to a role as a Special Advisor to the Board of Trustees, helping to support a seamless transition and continuing to lend his strategic insight to the organization.
During his impressive 17-year tenure, Dr. Hillyer spearheaded a variety of initiatives, including the expansion of the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute (LFKRI), and the advancement of its capabilities in genomics, cellular therapies, and biomanufacturing. Notable milestones achieved during his leadership include the FDA approval of HemaCord, the first licensed hematopoietic progenitor cell therapy product, and the establishment of Comprehensive Cell Solutions along with NYBC Ventures, which launched a $50 million investment fund in life sciences. Additionally, the consolidation of operations at NYBCe's new Rye Master Campus, which integrates blood operations, research, and cell therapy production into one facility, showcases the organization's growth and innovation.
Marc Kramer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, expressed profound gratitude for Dr. Hillyer's contributions, stating, "Dr. Hillyer's extraordinary contributions have left a lasting impact on NYBCe and the patients and communities we serve. We are deeply grateful for his dedication and are pleased that the organization will continue to benefit from his expertise and guidance."
Dr. Meghan Delaney brings extensive clinical, scientific, and executive experience to her new role. Currently, she serves as the Associate Chief Clinical Officer, Division Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Director of Transfusion Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Additionally, she is a professor at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and holds a position on the Board of Directors of the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB).
Upon her appointment, Dr. Delaney stated, "I am honored to have been selected as the next President and CEO of New York Blood Center Enterprises and look forward to building on its exceptional history of service, scientific excellence, and innovation. NYBCe plays a vital role in patient care, public health, scientific discovery, and the future of blood and cellular therapies. I am excited to work alongside its talented and dedicated employees, partners, and the communities we serve to embrace new opportunities and expand our impact for generations to come."
Founded in 1964, NYBCe has over six decades of lifesaving research and innovation. It operates across 16 states, servicing approximately 75 million people. The organization’s operations include providing over one million blood products annually to nearly 550 U.S. hospitals, alongside the delivery of cellular therapies and medical services to more than 200 research, academic, and biopharmaceutical organizations. The Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute stands at the forefront of hematology and transfusion medicine research, focusing on the prevention and treatment of blood-related diseases.
As NYBCe transitions into this new chapter under Dr. Delaney's leadership, there is great anticipation to see how her expertise will drive innovation and enhance services that contribute to patient care and public health. With a focus on scientific advancement and community impact, NYBCe remains committed to its mission of saving lives and advancing global health.
