The ActiMethod Narimasu School is set to open in April 2026, marking a significant milestone in innovative English education. Developed by i GO Inc., the ActiMethod combines typing with English learning, ensuring a unique approach that promotes effective language acquisition among children. As of December 2025, the program has expanded across Japan with over 100 schools, and plans for further openings are in the works.

Shifting Landscape of English Education

In recent years, English education in elementary schools has taken a major leap. Since the subject was established as a formal part of the curriculum, there have been significant upgrades to the English language curriculum across the nation. Beginning in 2020 for elementary and 2021 for middle school, the new guidelines aim to boost students' abilities in all four language skills - listening, speaking, reading, and writing - with strict assessments in place. Students in the fifth and sixth grades now receive two English classes per week for a total of 70 hours, reflecting a shift in focus towards developing essential communication skills.

Moreover, the implementation of foreign language activities has expanded to include third and fourth graders, providing an earlier start to language learning. Middle school vocabulary requirements have also increased, now expecting students to memorize 1,600 to 1,800 words, with lessons conducted predominantly in English.

The ActiMethod Approach

Your child’s English education can greatly benefit from the ActiMethod. This technique emphasizes rapid input of vocabulary through typing, making the learning experience effective and enjoyable. Students practice writing English words directly on a keyboard, which not only enhances their spelling but also strengthens their vocabulary through audio prompts. With consistent use, children can type up to ten times faster than writing by hand.
