A Special Exhibition Celebrating Osamu Tezuka
The Tokiwaso Manga Museum in Toshima Ward is set to host a unique exhibition titled "Osamu Tezuka: Save the Glass Earth" from August 2 to November 24, 2025. This event promises to be a significant attraction for fans of Tezuka, who is often regarded as the 'God of Manga' for his profound influence on the industry.
Exhibition Highlights
The exhibition will feature approximately 110 original handwritten manuscripts from Tezuka’s seminal essay collection, "Save the Glass Earth: To the 21st Century You." These pieces will delve into themes of the sanctity of life and the wonder of nature, ideals that Tezuka championed throughout his career.
Among the showcased works are beloved classics such as "Jungle Emperor Leo" and "Astro Boy." Moreover, the exhibition will also display lesser-known short stories and artworks that were created prior to his remarkable debut, providing a comprehensive look at the evolution of Tezuka's artistic vision.
Additionally, visitors will have the unique opportunity to view a special screening of a lecture in which Tezuka himself shares his thoughts and aspirations for the future, further emphasizing the timely messages that resonate with contemporary global issues.
Context and Relevance
According to a representative from Toshima Ward, the exhibition aligns closely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as many of Tezuka's themes reflect the essence of environmental conservation and social responsibility. With the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 on the horizon, this exhibition serves as an important cultural event that encourages attendees to reflect on their relationship with nature and the profound impact of life.
The district official remarked, "We hope that everyone will come and experience the relevance of Tezuka’s works, which emphasize the importance of life and nature, especially during this pivotal time for global sustainability efforts."
