Wellington College International and Rendeavour Launch New School in Alaro City, Nigeria

Wellington College International and Rendeavour Partner in Nigeria

Wellington College International, a prominent British educational provider, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Rendeavour, a leading African city builder, to establish a new mixed boarding and day school in Alaro City, Nigeria. Slated to open its doors in September 2027, the Wellington College International Lagos aims to cater to 1,500 students aged 3 to 18 years, revolutionizing the educational landscape in West Africa.

As Nigeria's economy continues to grow along with its rich culture, Lagos has been selected as the ideal location for the first Wellington College education network school in Africa. Traditionally, many Nigerian parents have opted to send their children abroad in search of high-quality international education. This new school will offer an equivalent standard of excellence closer to home, allowing families to receive top-tier education without the need for international relocation.

Wellington College International Lagos will embody the values of its parent institution, promoting high-quality education informed by local Nigerian educational practices. The school aims to integrate the pioneering spirit of Wellington College with regional strengths to become the premier educational institution in the area. The school’s curriculum will feature a robust program adhering to the rigorous English national standards, culminating in A-level qualifications, as well as offering outstanding coaching in sports, music, and the arts.

The partnership aligns with Rendeavour’s vision of developing integrated new cities across Africa. With support from American, Norwegian, New Zealand, and British investors, Rendeavour is committed to creating environments that encompass living, working, and learning within vibrant economic zones. Scott Bryan, an educator with over 25 years of experience in running British educational institutions, has been appointed as the Director of Education for Rendeavour, ensuring exceptional learning standards are met at the new school.

This venture marks the 11th addition to the Wellington College Education network, which includes schools across China, Thailand, and India, collectively serving over 6,200 students. Each institution is recognized for its academic excellence and world-class university placements, including opportunities at prestigious universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, and Ivy League institutions. The five core values—kindness, courage, respect, integrity, and responsibility—will guide all interactions within the school community, thus fostering a positive and supportive educational environment.

Rendeavour's Alaro City is a meticulously planned urban development spanning over 2,000 hectares, featuring allocations for commercial, industrial, and residential purposes. This includes office spaces, logistics, warehouses, housing, schools, healthcare facilities, hotels, entertainment centers, and 150 hectares dedicated to green and recreational spaces. Strategically situated just 45 minutes from Victoria Island and adjacent to the future Lagos International Airport, Alaro City is set to become the largest residential area within the Lekki Free Zone.

James Dahl, the 15th Master of Wellington College, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, "The partnership between Wellington College and Rendeavour positions the Wellington College International Lagos to quickly become recognized as the best school in Africa. With our global family of schools working together, we aim to offer transformative 21st-century education that prepares our students to thrive and make meaningful contributions to the world."

Stephen Jennings, Rendeavour’s founder and CEO, emphasized the necessity of integrating world-class education into city planning. He remarked, "By combining one of the most respected educational brands globally with our vision for integrated living, we are setting the groundwork for future leaders who will excel locally and compete on a global scale."

Sir Anthony Seldon, founder and principal of Wellington College Education, noted the importance of adapting education to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world, stating that the Wellington College International Lagos would play a key role in educational reform in Africa. He asserted that with its world-class facilities and holistic educational vision, it would soon become the aspiration for other schools.

Yomi Ademola, President of Rendeavour West Africa and CEO of Alaro City, highlighted that a city’s strength comes not only from its infrastructure and economy but also from its ability to nurture talent and educate future generations. The establishment of Wellington College International signifies a milestone in Lagos's evolution, reinforcing Alaro City as a center for the new Lagos and a catalyst for Africa’s urban future.

This partnership reflects a long-term vision focused on developing cities that empower individuals, attract global investment, and set new standards for what is possible in education throughout Africa.
