Insights from LINE Research on Favorite Shaved Ice Flavors
A recent survey conducted by LINE Yahoo, utilizing its vast active panel of over 7 million participants, has provided intriguing insights into Japan's preferred shaved ice flavors. The research targeted individuals aged 15 to 69, capturing a wide range of preferences across genders and age groups.
Overall Preference for Shaved Ice Flavors
The trending flavors among respondents prominently include
“Condensed Milk” and
“Strawberry”, which secured the top two spots in the ranking. Both flavors are classic favorites, although some newer variations have yet to gain significant popularity. The survey indicated that less than 10% of respondents did not have a favorite flavor or do not consume shaved ice.
The survey revealed that
Condensed Milk, which includes combinations like strawberry or azuki condensed milk, was the most favored option, with support from nearly 40% of participants. Following closely,
Strawberry flavors were also immensely popular. Ranked third was
Uji Kintoki, a matcha flavored treat paired with azuki beans. The sweet yet slightly bitter notes made it a suitable option for many. Other notable mentions included
Shirokuma, a creamy shaved ice dessert, and
Blue Hawaii, noted for its vibrant color.
Gender and Age Distribution of Shaved Ice Preferences
Diving deeper into the demographics, the survey highlighted variances in flavor preference based on gender and age groups. Both
Condensed Milk and
Strawberry flavors saw greater popularity among women compared to men. Specifically, women aged 50-60 displayed a strong affinity for
Condensed Milk, with support exceeding 50%. Meanwhile, the
Strawberry flavor enjoyed a broad appeal among women aged 10-50, securing high rankings across these demographics.
Younger respondents showed distinct preferences, with
Blue Hawaii being favored predominantly by teenagers, reaching mid-30% support, while young adults in their 20s and 30s also displayed significant enthusiasm. Carbonated flavors like
Cider and
Ramune were among the favorites for teens as well, although
Cola did not make the ranking but garnered approximately 20% support among teenage males.
Transcending across various age levels, traditional flavors like
Uji Kintoki and
Azuki showed increasing popularity, especially among those in their 60s, illustrating a clear inclination towards these classic treats as age rises.
Shirokuma, too, found favor among older demographics, particularly women in their 50s and 60s.
This survey’s findings reveal that innovative shaved ice flavors, like
Cake-based options and savory varieties such as
Cold Noodles, have yet to capture significant market interest, recording less than 10% preference among respondents.
